It wasn't until after I finished, that I had read a basically G rated fantasy/scifi book in one sitting. Not only did the author develop a solid storyline but kept to his guns in keeping the characters the driving force. I found the relationships, battle plans & lack of tech integral in the direction the author decided to take us. I enjoyed the ride & hope others will, as I pass my copy on & look forward to reading the next installment. thanks

Perhaps the perfect book,

I was very surprised to discover that a fantasy book set in a science fiction future could be so believable, engrossing, and just plain fun. Usually this genre is an embarassment to read! The book is serious yet witty. The main character, Prince Scar, has real character flaws and yet the reader is drawn along to view the world through his eyes and sees even the most dire circumstances with humor, cowardice, and underlying honor. A very fine read which I highly recommend!!!

When I started reading Ron Sarti's Chronicles of Scar, I was lucky to have heard only a little about it before I brought it to the table. If you had told me that it was a science fantasy tale about warring nations, I might not have picked it up; discounting David Weber and Philip Caputo (A Rumor of War), I haven't read many such tales that truly moved me. Fortunately, it suffices to say that Mr. Sarti is a serious writer who loves history and knows about war. In Scar, he does his very best to entertain us with his knowledge while providing realistic battle situations. And he succeeds. So who is Scar? Simply put, he is a waif whose rise we see, from a life of burglary and poverty to his destiny as a prince apparent to a kingdom. The rise is not easy, a path strewn with seditious lands plotting the overthrow of his kingdom and the ending of the governing codes. We see Scar in love, and his stubborn attitude towards responsibily running contradictory at times to his willingness for accepting great peril in the name of his father, the King. Summing up, Scar is a well rounded character. And the scenes in this novel ring true-- chillingly so. While reading the last few chapters, I could hardly believe the developments of the story. It just seemed too real. Have fun with this one!

I read this trilogy as a teenager, and I still have it on my shelf. Scar isn't the traditional fantasy hero and author isn't afraid to make hard choices with the characters. If you can find it at a used book store, snatch it up.

Good Premise... sadly underdeveloped.,

I really got into the premise of the begger child taken into the royal family. But Arn was a disappointment in that his sole ambition is to eat, sleep, and wench. His character had a lot of potential that was never developed. There was ALOT of combat detail that I am not a big fan of. However, the writing was interesting and comical at times. I am ordering the second of the series to see if Arn developes a personality. The relationship betweens brothers was sadly lukewarm. Maybe Arn will grow in the 2nd book???

A well-written story that immerses the reader into a futuristic post-holocast feudal society where technology is illegal. Incredibly enjoyable story with characters that beg to be noticed! Well worth reading!

I really enjoyed this book. The plot moves along at a fast pace and the characters are believable. It is hard to believe that this is a 1st book. I am afraind this will be one of those great ones that got away from many people.

A book with the feel of fantasy and sold as fantasy, yet it follows the rules for science fiction. Everything is plausable, nothing is pulled out of a hat. The setting is the Ohio Valley in the future where royalty has returned. The charaters are likeable and leave the reader wanting the next book.
