Wow I almost forgot just how good the Fleetwoods sounded until I bought this c.d. This c.d. has sixty five songs on it and of course it has their chart toppers such as Mr. Blue, and Come Softly To Me but it really blew me away when I heard how the original Fleetwoods sang songs like Go Away Little Girl ,Tears On My Pillow , A Teenager In Love and the great oldie Lah -Dee -Dah by Mickey and Sylvia. If you like to listen to a really fantastic trio then this is a must for your music system.

This is by far the best Fleetwoods' compilation, in song selection and sound quality. Finally, a set that includes Poor Little Girl and Hey, Little Tear from the Deep in a Dream album (their best) as well as Magic Star. The collection also gives a great cross-section of their career and the songs are well sequenced. The sound mixing does justice to all three of their voices -- they have never sounded better. The two-disc set also definitively demonstrates the group's ability to vary the lead voices and harmonies, which was a truly unique characteristic of The Fleetwoods. Their commercial singles generally put Gary at the center, and these are great and timeless songs but this compilation shows the full range of the talents of Gretchen, Barbara and Gary and shows just how talented they were, as individuals and as a trio. Now, how about making all of The Fleetwoods' catalogue available for download? Great job!

The Fleetwoods, a trio from Olympia, Washington (Gary Troxel, Gretchen Christopher and Barbara Ellis) were a feature on radio, in juke boxes and in record sales from 1959 to 1963 racking up 11 Billboard Pop Hot 100 single hits, two of which also made the R&B and Adult Contemporary (AC) charts, as well as 10 popular albums (see Comments below), all for the Seattle-based Dolton Records, then owned by Bob Reisdorf and Bonnie Guitar, and originally called Dolphin Records.

In 1963, Liberty Records, which had been around since 1955 and which had come close to bankruptcy in 1958 before being convinced by Ross Bagdasarian (aka David Seville) to give his Chipmunks creation a shot - as move that turned their fortunes around dramatically - was bought up by the electronics corporation Avnet, along with the labels Blue Note, Imperial, Aladdin, Minit - and Dolton. Since then, the "Liberty" name has come and gone with changing ownership but in 2005, and now owned by EMI, came this comprehensive 2-CD (tracks 1 to 30 on Disc 1 - 31 to 65 on Disc 2) retrospective on one of the biggest acts to appear under the Dolton imprint (The Ventures and Vic Dana were their other two big stars) features excellent sound reproduction and comes with a full-colour 20-page informative booklet.

All 11 of their hits are here along with some of their failed single releases and assorted album Dolton cuts (see Comments with titles preceded by an asterisk indicating those that are included here). Dolton's first release also became the trio's greatest, capturing significant attention in both the Pop and R&B markets and rising to # 1 Billboard Pop Hot 100 (where it would remain for 4 weeks) and # 5 R&B in March/April 1959 on Dolton 1 b/w I Care So Much.

What I great CD. I love the Fleetwood's. I am a collector of 50;s and 60's music and this is a great addition to my collection. They do many songs on this cd that other artists made famous and they do them well.
