5.0 out of 5 stars this is the Mt. Everest of books on Christ's life, June 2, 2003
I just finished a 2.5 yr concentrated study on Christ's life for an advanced class that I teach. My library on Christ's life went from 25 books to over 200. And now that the study is over I am fully convinced that Mark Moore's 2 volume set is the finest thing ever written outside of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Shephard, Pentecost, Foster, Morgan, Spurgeon, Andrews, Keller and a ton of others are fine books, but a very distant 2nd place to Moore's work. His scholarship is current and DEEP, yet he writes in a very readable, contemporary style. If you don't have this 2 volume set, you need to get it. When? NOW! Remember, as a Christian it is more important to know and understand more about JESUS than any other religious or biblical subject. And if your library doesn't contain Moore's set, it is missing the finest resource available outside of the gospels themselves. God bless. Mike

5.0 out of 5 stars Review of The Chronological Life of Christ, December 30, 2002

A well written and factual book. It is not just dry fact but a comparison of the four gospels written in chronogolical order. The reader gets a great insight to the life of Christ and what He went through in the early years of His life on earth. The companion book "From Galilee to Glory" written by the same author takes the reader on to the finish of His life on the cross.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is two volumes in one, January 16, 2010
By
Moore's two-volume work The Chronological Life of Christ has now been combined into this single book. There are many "harmonies" of the four gospels in print, and of course, countless commentaries. Moore combines both types of resource in this book, offering well-researched and profound insights in an almost conversational style. Bible class teachers will appreciate his cultural explanations, and all will applaud the spiritual lessons that Moore highlights. Many commentaries dive into deep scriptural waters, unwittingly leaving most readers behind. Moore gets straight to the point and focuses only on "the bottom line" of each scene in Jesus' life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, meaty study material, October 27, 1999

I enjoyed Mark's style - detailed, insightful, and imaginative - as he explored the scenario's in Jesus' life. I found it to be my most useful reference for the flow of Jesus' life and the "ethos" of the events as I studied for a class I am teaching on the Life of Christ.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but could be better, October 14, 2010

Generally a good book. Easy to read, with good writing style that you don't need a degree to read. However it does miss a few points of more advanced or deeper digging that could have been brought out. And it does try to merge a few accounts of different events into one event. So he has to try to explain away the differences in the 'sermon on the mount' and the 'sermon on the plain' to force them into one sermon. And force the six denials of Peter into three, as is so traditionally done. (deny 3 before cock crows, and deny 3 before second crowing, and at least five different people he denies knowing Christ to.) On the other hand he does correctly have Jesus clean out the temple two times. So alltogether I do recommend it. It even taught me one or two things I missed in my dozens of readings of the Gospels.

Mark Moore has done a splendid job of artfully discussing the life of Jesus. This is the second volime in the set and like the first, the detail and attending world view information is helpful to the reader. Very scholarly yet readable.
