Editorial Reviews

The recent appearance on the David Letterman Show reached millions of people with their special signature sound that was so groundbreaking back in 1992 when the band hit the ground running and delighting fans over the past 30 years.
Continuing with their commemoration of this milestone, LRB is releasing CHRONOLOGY, VOLUME THREE which is specially priced 10 song album, this time culling fan favorites from their third decade. Just like on CHRONOLOGY, VOLUME ONE & TWO, the material contains updated versions of many of the LRB s most popular songs during this decade, reprised by the current group.
2012 will be filled with many high profile special media events to commemorate LRB s 30th Year Anniversary. CHRONOLOGY, VOLUME THREE is the third in this collection series to be released this year so their fans can enjoy their retrospective music journey from the past and connect that with the success and popularity of LRB today.

Format: Audio CD
The LRB has been together for 30 years now and have won many Bluegrass awards over the year with banjo player Sammy Shelor getting a slew of "picker of the year" awards for himself. Their concept on their 30th anniversary is to issue three EPs (short CDs),each representing a decade of their music. The first two each contained 8 songs while this, the third one, contains 10 tracks (and runs about 30 minutes) covers songs from albums in released in the 2002-2012 years.

None of the songs are band compositions, but tunes written by bluegrass songcrafters like Don Reno, Harley Allen and Dan Tyminski. The CD ends with the oldie "Sittin' On Top of The World", credited to "public domain" in the notes but actually composed by the core members of the 1930s string band, The Mississippi Sheiks, Walter Vinson and Lonnie Chatmon.

While I actually prefer the songs on Volume One - the early years - the ones that stood out for me here are "the Game I Can't Win" from their "Old Country Town" album from 1994 and "Dog Gone Shame", a hard driving banjo-centric romp with Shelor leading the charge, this brings the collection to its completeness. I'm told it's also available as part of a 3-CD "Chronolgy" box set.

I hope you found this review both informative and helpful.

This is typically great music from LRB. They have been exceptional for many years. This project is a great summary history.
