5.0 out of 5 stars Haven't had this much fun throwing the ball in years!, April 16, 2009
By
This review is from: Chuckit! Ultra Grip Ball Launcher (Colors Vary) (Misc.)
I have only had this product one day now, so I can't attest to its longevity.

When I first opened it, I was a little clunky with it and wasn't sure if I would enjoy it. It seemed hard to snap the ball in and I was kind of smashing the ball against the ground to fully lodge it in. Gladly, after about 2 minutes, I was getting the hang of that part and came to find that I could fully snap the ball in place in about half a second by grabbing first with the back and pushing forward.

Let me put it to you this way, my dog and I lost the first ball I threw. I had no idea how far it would go and didn't anticipate it. Lets just say it went over my garage and somewhere into oblivion, goodbye chuckit ball :) Good thing the ball that came with it was nothing more than a regular tennis ball and I had plenty of those lying around.

The second time around was smoother, went to an open area and tested it at different speeds. There seems to be a sweet spot you hit, where throwing any harder doesn't add distance, but you get a feel for that pretty quick. The ball went far, imagine you putting your shoulder full into every normal throw and then adding a lot of feet, that was the average throw. It was great fun.

I bought this in anticipation of the summer, because last year I had thrown my arm out one day (I have an English Springer Spaniel) because my dog would literally rather have a heart attack than ever stop playing fetch. This year, I could see it in his eyes, whenever I would grab a ball he would give me the stare of, you are going to throw this ball so long your arm is going to fall off, lets go have fun!

Needless to say, I threw the ball farther, faster and for more time yesterday than I did any day of the summer last year. I don't have so much as a sore muscle early this morning and am ready to do it again. My dog on the other hand has turned into a sleep deprived teenager from all the exercise and probably loathes the thought of the mid day sun waking him up from his sleep today :P He was beat!

My one complaint isn't with the item, its with the season. Spring stinks. By the time we were done playing my dog looked like a chocolate lab and I haven't turned on the water to the hose yet. So, its some major baths. Normally my dog hates the idea of the bath and makes it sound like I'm throwing him in some Roman arena to fight to the death. But he was so tired after playing, he actually laid down in the tub. I could have swore he muttered, just wash me, I want some sleep...NOW!

5.0 out of 5 stars Slobber-Ball, Or, How to save your Shoulder, November 2, 2008
This review is from: Chuckit! Ultra Grip Ball Launcher (Colors Vary) (Misc.)
Take FOUR dogs, from a 16 month old German Shepherd down to a 13LB JRT (Jack Russell Terrier), an old fat guy with a sore shoulder and what do you get???

The need for the Chuckit! ball thrower! This is the best money I have ever spent! Seriously! Think about it! No moving parts! Simple to use! It uses Plain Old Tennis Balls!

That's right! When the included ball dies of old age, you need not buy 'replacement' balls - just buy TENNIS BALLS - they work perfectly!

No more wet hands from picking up the slobber ball! I can use this while sitting on a bench even :-)

Plus, using the Chuckit! you throw further too!

My wife loves the Chuckit! JR - she has small hands and the JR is a bit smaller, and is great when throwing from the front porch of our house.

All of our dogs have great ball drive. All were taught as pups to fetch tennis balls in the house, and outside too. I've tried using a tennis racket, I've bought the sling shot type ball launcher (tubes break, you need both hands, etc) - and in the past, I always was tired out before my dogs were. Not any more! With the Chuckit! the dogs will call it quits before me! There is nothing better than a tired and happy dog - best 14 bucks you'll ever spend!

I own 2 'Ultra' and 3 'JR' models - keep a JR in each car, and an Ultra in the back of my car, a JR hanging on the front porch, and an Ultra hanging from a hook at the back of the house - and a tennis ball will stay inside it - oldest one is bout a year old - no break-age yet (a few chew marks only)

If you have a dog that loves tennis balls, you owe it to yourself and your dog(s) to get this!

5.0 out of 5 stars Chuckit!, July 26, 2008
This review is from: Chuckit! Ultra Grip Ball Launcher (Colors Vary) (Misc.)
This thing is the BOMB! Takes no effort at all to toss a tennis ball twice as far as you normally throw. I abuse mine a lot and it still works like the day i got it. Highly recommended for those that cant throw far. Get the ultra the rubber grip feels better on your hands.

5.0 out of 5 stars great product and price, July 25, 2011

This is the nicer version of this product because it has the padded handle. If you use it as much as I do, it makes a big difference. I had priced the unpadded one and it was much higher. Good price, good product, happy customer.

After about 8 years of heavy use, my old Chuckit finally broke. I cannot tell you how many 1000's of chucks it had, but it was a LOT. Once you throw balls with a Chuckit, you will probably never throw balls by hand again. I just got this "ultra" version, and the padded handle makes a little bit of a difference. It is a little more comfortable, so I'm glad I made the upgrade. I hope this one lasts me another 8 years, and I'm sure it will. I bought mine from the Amazon seller "Makais", who had a great deal on it and shipped it blazing fast. Thank you [...]!

5.0 out of 5 stars Make SURE you buy the "ultra", July 2, 2010

Can't add much to what others have said. It's GREAT. But be sure to buy this model with the "ultra grip". Throwing over and over without the padded grip gets hard on your hands. This is a tremendous product. I'm a 60 year old lady, and can still throw the ball an amazing distance.

If you purchase a Chesapeake Bay Retriever, this should be given to you when you pick up your puppy! 8-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome with cushy handle!, June 2, 2011
This review is from: Chuckit! Ultra Grip Ball Launcher (Colors Vary) (Misc.)
I like this ball launcher much better than the original ChuckIt!. The handle makes throwing the ball much more enjoyable because it does not hurt your hand and allows you to throw the ball even further. If you've got a ball obsessed dog, this is a must have.

5.0 out of 5 stars A better way to run your dog(s), February 4, 2010
This review is from: Chuckit! Ultra Grip Ball Launcher (Colors Vary) (Misc.)
If the regular Chuckit is good, the Ultra Grip is great.

Much like the regular Chuckit, you can throw the ball farther, faster and longer than you can with your arm, while also enjoying the benefit of a Saliva-free Dog run session.

The main difference between the Ultra Grip and the regular Chuckit is the soft, synthetic grip that coats the inside of the Chuckit, providing a far more comfortable throwing experience.

Additionally, it is quite durable, handling cold temperatures and thousands of repetitions without fail.

5.0 out of 5 stars CHUCK IT LAUNCHER, November 28, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Chuckit! Ultra Grip Ball Launcher (Colors Vary) (Misc.)
This launcher grows on you. I like the shorter Chuckit launcher better because it is easier to use and not as ungainly. Also, I find that the ball sometimes swerves a bit. But you can throw a ball much further with this launcher.

The product is good. We bought 2 and they are holding up great.

4.0 out of 5 stars Taking fetch to a whole new level, August 7, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Chuckit! Ultra Grip Ball Launcher (Colors Vary) (Misc.)
Why didn't I buy this earlier? It would have saved me days of sore arm muscles caused by throwing tennis balls. This little piece of plastic and rubber is truly amazing, with barely a flick of my wrist the ball goes soaring many times further than I could have ever thrown. When the ball is retrieved, I have the added bonus of skipping the usual displeasure of grabbing a slobbery, filthy ball with my bare hands. I hardly need to bend down and it's back in the Chuckit and ready to go. My puppy was exhausted for days after our first outing with the Chuckit and the peace and quiet was pure bliss. The ONLY complaint that I have about this (and why I haven't given it 5 stars) is that I can't choose the color - shallow, I know, but I miss the option.
