3.0 out of 5 stars Tasteful photography but nothing original
I saw this book a few years ago in a bookstore and was drawn to the beautiful men inside. The photography was intersting as I flipped through it but nothing original.

I bought the book due to the tasteful nude/semi-nude photography and it is still sitting on my coffee table and is a great conversation piece.

and as for the type of subjects photographed, this is a great collection of spanish boys-next-door, taken right out from the streets of madrid to from now on be seen as hot bedroom posters. there's a sensational urban feel to all of the pictures, with a vast variety when it comes to art direction. one of the most remarcable and popular ones around the globe, that of the man on the cover, who is one of kylie minogue's better known dancers.
if you're looking for a book with well done erotic photography of the male body accompanied by a twist of urban dirtiness you'll definitely get it here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rasty and Raw - and Very Dramatically Colorful, February 16, 2011

This review is from: Chulo (Hardcover)
Joan Crisol knows what he is about, beginning with the title he chose for this portfolio, CHULO. According to popular uses 'Chulo in Mexican slang refers to someone who is cute, hot, good looking etc.' But here the Spanish fashion photographer Crisol, working for internationally renowned magazines for years, like ROLLING STONE, ZERO and PLAYBOY, does not limit himself to men of any particular category except erotic. Yes, tattoos abound as do some outrageous stage props that allow Crisol to make some hefty statements. But for the photographs themselves these are richly colorful, well designed in layout and theme, and survey the spectrum of male models from grunge to sophistication.

The artist takes such pride in the composition he creates that he recognizes that the models are as important as his technique. In the latter portion of the book he lists each model by name and the pages on which each of the models are posed. Not only is this a generous, selfless gesture on the part of the artist, but it also gives the reader the opportunity to examine the many different poses (some being real surprises!) of the same model. This is a delightfully raw adventure book of some of the most 'chulo' models around! Grady Harp, February 11
