Antony Santos is the undisputed KING of bachata! This album is the old school roots of what we know today as modern bachata. Everybody from Aventura to Monchy y Alexadra to Luny Tunes( the Neptunes of reggaeton ) gotta tip their hat to El Mayimbe. There are moments that this is a 5 star album especially "Voy Pa'lla" and "Esa Morena." I forget the exact year that this was released originally, but judging from Santos' faux jheri curl hairdo on the cover, this must be the early to mid eighties. Regardless, Juan Luis Guerra is NOT the father of bachata Santos is. not to take anything away rom JLG he is a genuis but for that raw, emotional heartbreak this is the ONLY place you need look!

4.0 out of 5 stars The good beginnings of "El Mayimbe", March 7, 2000

Antony Santos' first album consisted of many "pericoripiaos", or bachatarengues that really bring you into his world. However, "Voy Palla", "Ya encontre mi hembra", and my favorite, "Te vas amor" are true "I adore you" songs that I personally like. This album gave us his roots as to how big a superstar he would become, and still is today.

Just got my cd the date it was promised to arrive. Im real happy becuase this is antony santos first cd ever and I wanted it as a collection I'm going to frame it and hang it up on my studio wall someday, but before that I'm going to get it signed by him since I'm going to see him in a few months. Cd is great its old school bachata, I love old school bachata better than most modern bachata. Buy it or download it LEGALLY, I don't like to download songs illegally its not right it isn't fair for those hard working artist so do the right thing Buy this cd show el mayimbe love!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Old-school Dominican bachata, October 1, 2008
This review is from: La Chupadera (Audio CD)
This is the first album, from 1992, by Dominican pop star Antony Santos, featuring a more rural, acoustic version of the now-global bachata style. If you prefer the earlier bachata style of the 1960s and '70s (which is hard to find these days -- try the "Bachata Roja" compilation album) then you might want to check out these early albums from Santos. It's pretty close, and has a nice lyrical melodic core. Recommended! (DJ Joe Sixpack, Slipcue World Music Guide)
