Somewhat Disappointing, April 1, 2007
This review is from: Church Dogmatics, Vol. 5: Index, with Aids to the Preacher (Hardcover)
Having the entire Church Dogmatics on my shelf and using them on a regular basis to prepare sermons just as Barth would have wanted, I have to say that I am a little disappointed with the presentation of the information contained within. Just what lectionary scheme are we following here? Some of the biblical texts obviously don't go with the Barthian themes covered. One deep disappointment is the paucity of Old Testament references within. In addition, my volume is falling apart and is relatively new. I'm not sure that this should be happening even with a regularly used hard-back volume, I am disappointed that this would happen on such an expensive book. Having said this, the reference volume/ book is somewhat useful for exactly the reason it was provided--for the busy pastor who needs to cut right to the heart of the chase. So in some regards the editors are to be thanked for their work. I only wish it could be revised a bit.
