This is a great overview of the Church Fathers and Teachers. The book covers thirty-five Church Fathers and Teachers from Saint Leo the Great to Peter Lombard. On the list are many well know names but there are also many lesser know but very important people in the development and growth of the Church. Pope Benedict is able to show how these people established the theology of the Church. Pope Benedict starts each chapter by describing the world the individual lived in and then goes on to discuss the writings and beliefs of the individual and the impact the individual left on the world. All of Pope Benedict's books are easy to read and understand. You do not need a theological background to understand them. It is an amazing condensed book that gives an excellent summary of each of the Church Fathers and Teachers.

An interesting and valuable approach. Pope Benedict tells something about the person's life, brief points about their teaching or views, and usually an application to the Christian life today.

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI will still be read one hundred years from now. His writing is clear, centered on faith yet fair to historical reality and the ideas contary to the Church. This work will allow you to access the rich thought of the Church Fathers and to realize that it has never been easy to follow Christ.

A teacher and are two things that can not be done without. "Church Fathers and Teachers: From Saint Leo the Great to Peter Lombard" is a discussion from Pope Benedict XVI on the greatest Catholic leaders and teachers through the start of Catholicism's dominance in Europe, from the fifth through twelfth centuries and their lasting impact on the faith. "Church Fathers and Teachers" is a top pick for any theology collection, highly recommended.

This book is one in a series, in English, that capture the homilys the Holy Father gave to the visiting pilgrims on Wednesdays in the Vatican since becoming Pope. What I like the most is how what the Holy Father writes instills in the mind and heart of his readers that the Church instituted by Jesus Christ is the Roman Catholic Church. Another thing that burns through is how the early Fathers understood that they would probably have to die for the Faith and a lot did.

This is a great introduction to the fathers of the church. It is broken in short chapters that can be easily read in short sittings. A must read for Catholics.
