5.0 out of 5 stars Beginners through Advanced Attention!
Having used this deck for over thirty years, I highly recommend it to everyone who is a serious student of Sacred Tarot. The absence of color has been an advantage for me. The more attention paid to this deck, and its accompanying book, The Sacred Tarot, Course V in the Brotherhood of Light series, the more progress is available to the student of tarot. I bought this deck, because I have owned the book "How to Read Tarot Cards" by Doris Chase Doane and King Keys for decades. These cards have always fascinated me.
But I also own other tarot decks and books, primarily from the Arthur Waite tradition and similar schools of thought.

This deck (and the book) are treasures for those who wish to make real progress as students of esoteric knowledge. Let others "play" with tarot decks. If you really want inner knowledge, this is the deck for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars These cards are authentic tools of divination, January 13, 2007

In 1978 I learned to read the tarot using this deck and have used it continuously since that time. With the help of the astrological glyphs right on the cards, I magnitized and embedded the meaning of the cards within one week. Yes, I had already studied and mastered the science of astrology for 2-3 years which assisted my progress. However, the Church of Light tarot deck is the best form of divination that works for me. These cards are an authentic tool for divination. I never go anywhere without them. Try them and see for yourself!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the Best There Are..., July 1, 2007

I've read Tarot Cards since 1974 and this was my first deck. Now, it is still my undisputed favorite.

I collect Tarot Decks and yet I always come back to this one. Some of it's appeal is the Church of Light: Book 6 - The Sacred Tarot that one should purchase to go with it. I have more than 100 books on the Tarot and the one by The Church of Light mentioned above is undoubtedly the most informative book on this subject that I have ever come across. (Also known previously as The Brotherhood of Light...)

Each card gives you the Egyptian, Hebrew, English letters, the constellations, the sign, it's decanate, the planetary influence and in the case of the Major Arcana, it shows a picture from the Ancient Egyptian Initiation Chambers inside the pyramids.

Many are put off by the quiet black and white cards, it is significant however that you are encouraged to color YOUR cards yourself and to use those colors that are most beneficial to you. Only a beginner wouldn't recognize the subtle but profound wisdom of this practice...

There are unique stories/legends/reasons why the Major 8 and Major 11 are reversed from the positions one usually finds in some of the other popular decks out there. After extensively studying numerology and astrology however, I have to agree with THIS placement.

I am so grateful that I was led to this deck and it's study organization before I ran into other decks. I got off to a solid gold start.

It is a testament to the outstanding nature of this Church of Light Tarot Deck that it always sells out as fast as it is reprinted. If you run into a used deck, grab it immediately. It is worth buying as much as the new decks are. I always go to the website to look for them when I can't find them here on Amazon. Happy hunting!!

I bought this deck, because I have owned the book "How to Read Tarot Cards" by Doris Chase Doane and King Keys for decades. These cards have always fascinated me.
But I also own other tarot decks and books, primarily from the Arthur Waite tradition and similar schools of thought.

While there are overlaps in meaning, these two traditions are quite different. I can't reconcile them in my mind at all.

Others: Swords = Air, Pentacles = Earth
These: Swords = Earth, Coins (Pentacles) = Air

Others: The Fool starts the cycle as 0 and Aleph
These: The Fool is 22, and the Magus starts the cycle as 1 and Aleph

So pick the tradition that corresponds to your understanding. But mix them carefully, if at all. They assign completely different astrological signs to the cards, which of course changes the meanings dramatically. I don't know that one is better than the other -- I just didn't expect them to be so different.

3.0 out of 5 stars Unusual Style of Tarot Cards-B&W, Study & color 8/11reversed, August 2, 2000
This review is from: Church of Light : Authentic Egyptian Tarot Cards (Cards ed) (Cards)
The Brotherhood of Light Tarot is one of the many decks in the world that has the 8 & 11 reversed (e.g., "The Thoth Deck"). It is not the easiest to use, because the cards are produced in Black and White (explained below) and the Lesser Arcana have minimal symbolism.... The Black & White rendering of the deck is for the purpose of the Initiate gaining a deeper contact with the cards and learning the symbolism & color-relationship of each aspect of the card by RESEARCHING and studying the texts....and coloring them, by hand (which I do not advise, until you study Tarot--esp., "The Sacred Tarot," by C.C. Zain. THE MAJOR ARCANA are wonderful--very Unique ! You will treasure this deck, even if you do not connect with it until you have read a few books and gained a firm ground upon-which to draw info from the Inner Plane. This is mostly a deck for initiates of the BofL.
