5.0 out of 5 stars Fresh, Practical and Revolutionary, January 20, 2008
By
A Reader (Chicago, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Church Shift: Revolutionizing Your Faith, Church, and Life for the 21st Century (Paperback)
Having heard a lot about the author, a black African, being the pastor of the largest church in Europe(100,000 members in Ukraine with a make up that is 99% white Europeans) with two million new converts, 600 church plants in over 35 nations all within 12 years of the church existence, I was really excited to find this book and I was not disappointed. Every page of the book is an unveiling of the secrets behind this revolutionary church. The keys to having an impactful life and building a nation-changing church are practically uncovered in this book. It is a gold mine of life-changing truth. I recommend it to every Christian and Christian leader who want to leave the ordinary for the extraordinary in their lives and ministries.

5.0 out of 5 stars A PARADIGM SHIFT INDEED,AND MUCH NEGLECTED SUBJECT, January 26, 2008

This review is from: Church Shift: Revolutionizing Your Faith, Church, and Life for the 21st Century (Paperback)
For a while Ive been led by God to understand the mentality of pastors like Sunday and why theyve made such impact. Ive discovered that its the kingdom mentality that makes a difference. The author declares how Jesus spoke very little about the church and 90% on the kingdom. Its an eye opener to see how many churches only focus on "Building their church", when in fact ministries that God is empowering are focused on the The Kingdom in general. He states that CHURCH is our headquearters but that battles are not fought in headquartes, but on the field...the world is the field.LET ME ASSURE YOU:THIS IS NOT JUST ANOTHER BOOK ON EVANGELISM, BUT RATHER A POWERFUL BOOK FULL OF TEACHING ON WHAT THE KINGDOM OF GOD REALLY IS.This book will really broaden your concept and open your mind on how God intends to build his church. Other than Myles Munroe, Ive found very little on this subject. As a pastor, I recomend it to pastors and church leaders. A TRUE PARADIGM SHIFT!BUY IT, YOULL BE CHALLENGED.

5.0 out of 5 stars Every choice or decision either delivers or enslaves., February 5, 2008
By
Pastor Folahan Adefope (Atlanta, Georgia, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Church Shift: Revolutionizing Your Faith, Church, and Life for the 21st Century (Paperback)
Living in a transient world with constantly changing value systems, norms, cultures and mind-sets, we often forget that the God we profess to serve and worship is a God of absolutes and immutability.
CHURCH SHIFT is a profound wake-up call to every Christian from the pulpit to the pew, reminding us that the message of the Lord Jesus was almost entirely about the Kingdom of God and not so much about the Church. This book is a sincere and passionate attempt to re-direct the focus of the Christian to those things which are of eternal value and significance - the principles contained in the Word of God and not religion or our particular expression of it.
Pastor Sunday in this book teaches that the world is subjected to futility so that we might set people free with the news and principles of God's kingdom. This is because we have all the answers and are indispensable to the health and well-being of the nations. The world badly needs us and simply cannot and should not do without us. WHAT AN AWESOME REVELATION OF TRUTH!!!
This Nigerian-born Pastor with a passion for the nation of Ukraine challenges and confronts the present mindset and preoccupation of the Church with itself, it's size, prosperity, image, membership dynamics, needs etc., calling for a revolutionary shift and re-focus back to the original purpose and great commission of God to impact people groups and nations and not just the Pastors and Church Members. This is the only means through which transformation can be brought to our nations.
THIS BOOK IS A MUST-READ FOR EVERY SERIOUS CHRISTIAN.

5.0 out of 5 stars liberating the Prisoners in the Pews, January 31, 2008
This review is from: Church Shift: Revolutionizing Your Faith, Church, and Life for the 21st Century (Paperback)
Pastor Sunday Adelaja is not just a Pastor but a Liberator & Reformer. With this fresh, new & powerful book he puts a tool in every believers hand to enable us "discover our promised land", "take new territories for God" & "Impose the Kingdom of God on todays culture"
In this book he seeks to change the present mindset of the church being preoccupied with itself, its size, its image & needs and seeks to refocus it back to its original purpose. He says that "to complete the great commission we must impact nations & not just church members".
I was particularly challenged when he describes today's church members as God's workers in captivity."They are like prisoners & the church pastors are the wardens"
This book teaches us not on how to bring revival alone but revolution to cultures & transformation to our nations www.transformleaders.net

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally... A challenge to the CHURCH!, February 9, 2008
This review is from: Church Shift: Revolutionizing Your Faith, Church, and Life for the 21st Century (Paperback)
There are only a handful of reformers on Earth today and Sunday Adelaja stands out in this unique group: not because he pastors the largest evangelical Church in Europe, planted over 600 Churches in 35 countries or that being Nigerian leads a congregation that is over 98% caucasian. The phenomenon that envelopes Pastor Sunday is his passion for the advancement of the Kingdom of God which triggered the transformation of an entire nation. The principles that have infused the Kingdom of God into every sphere of societal influence and brought a nation like Ukraine to its knees before God is not only relevant to the world today, but desperately needed in America. CHURCHSHIFT reveals the heart of God for the Earth and provides practical principles on how to change the culture and affect the nation. The true purpose of the Church is unveiled in this book and indeed the heart cry of Christ when He died on the cross for us. Every Christian (not just Pastors now) should buy, read, study, re-study, and implement the precepts preserved in the pages of CHURCHSHIFT!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Insight For the Church!!!, February 9, 2008
By
This review is from: Church Shift: Revolutionizing Your Faith, Church, and Life for the 21st Century (Paperback)
God has spoken through His Word that He will shine forth out of HIS CHURCH (Psalm 50:1-3), and I believe CHURCH SHIFT is a NOW message that is needed to ignite spiritual renewal in America.

There is a cultural way of "doing church" in America that does not reflect the person of Jesus Christ. If you desire to see a vibrant, passionate church that has authentic love for God and one another...a church that has authority and influence and is able to make genuine impact on society...a church that is striving for personal growth and striving to reach people with the gospel...a church that is teachable, humble, genuine, and that carries all of the authority and virtues that Jesus Christ paid for her to have...THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU!!!

The spiritual insight provided by Pastor Sunday in this book, if whole-heartedly embraced and practiced, will bring about a manifestation of the character, the power, and the presence of Christ and the principles of His Kingdom.

This review is from: Church Shift: Revolutionizing Your Faith, Church, and Life for the 21st Century (Paperback)
I am sure this book will become an instant classic, but more importantly, the message is a must read for any Christian. You will be challenged to shift your thinking on the role of the church. As a minister, it is my hope that every believer will take this message and run with it! God is already using this book to transform lives and nations!

"To reach new heights in the kingdom, you must extend your hand to the depths and become a friend of the unwanted and unloved," according to Sunday Adelaja in this extraordinary book. He has demonstrated this is his own life, born in a Nigerian village, moving to Russia to study journalism, then planting a church in the Ukraine. Nobody in the Ukraine was willing to listen to him other than the unwanted and unloved, but through reaching out to society's outcasts his church has grown to exert a significant influence on Ukrainian national life.

As well as telling parts of the author's own story, the book describes a number of kingdom principles which, if followed, would enable the church in Western countries to overcome its current malaise. "The church fulfils its mandate when it changes society, not when it is confined to its sanctuary and Sunday school classrooms." "The church is to be the training ground for people who will impact the society around them." "There is absolutely no use in having a big church without changing culture, speaking to society and curing social ills."

Whereas other church leaders typically focus their thinking on how to attract the maximum number of people to a church, or how to explain the gospel most clearly, Adelaja gives a refreshingly different perspective by focusing on how to maximise the impact of the church on every aspect of the culture and society in its country. It is a well-thought-through and challenging but inspiring book, and I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The book for any Christian who feels there is something more than the pew, April 25, 2008
By
Robert A. Avila (Central California) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Church Shift: Revolutionizing Your Faith, Church, and Life for the 21st Century (Paperback)
I started trying to find a church when I was 13. I walked to all the churches within distance. Nobody even greeted me, a boy without parents! Traveling around America in the military, I went to every church I could and still did not find a man teaching the same message I found in the Bible.

I visited Ukraine and a business contact there invited me to church (see how it works... a business person invites a foreigner to worship, strengthening her sector of society, winning it over for Christ in Christ's ideals).

Listening to Sunday, I was in shock. For the very first time in my life, I heard a man feeding me the same gospel of the Bible. The service was only three and a half hours. I wanted to stay longer.

Sunday fasts and prays one week each month. Seeking like this produces a great WEALTH of God's word. In this book, Sunday shares, really, the Lord's perspective of our church. Reading this book will instantly change your focus, motivate you, inspire you... It is like I have a friend encouraging me to go out and pursue the fire in my heart. Awesome!

I was so impressed by Church Shift, that I wrote a letter to Pastor Sunday, saying Thank you for such a timely book.

Church Shift is a book that every Christian should read. Not only does it challange your current stance, it moves you to the place where you have to make personal adjustments. Adjustments necessary to carry God's heart and reach the lost.

It is his mission and should be ours. Tell a friend, you may want to read it as a church. It is more than worth the time, it can be a life chnager if you are ready for the challange.
