5.0 out of 5 stars A valuable record of medieval official anti-Semitism, March 5, 2003
This review is from: Church, State, and Jew in the Middle Ages (Paperback)
Robert Chazan has compiled a wonderful collection of documents which illustrate the attitudes held by the Roman Catholic Church and the secular authorities toward Jews during the Middle Ages. Most of them are legal codes, or attributable to the pens of bishops, popes, and kings. However, Chazan includes a few from the point of view of the Jews themselves, which makes this illustration of medieval anti-Semitism all the richer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Description of Horrific World of Christian Injustice, October 26, 2009
This review is from: Church, State, and Jew in the Middle Ages (Paperback)
It is very difficult for a Jew to read this book as it painfully documents injustice after injustice by both Church and State of the medieval Europe. It shows how modern antisemitism is so much rooted in the medieval one.
