2.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre, at best
I love and collect soul food cookbooks, as well as church community cookbooks. However, what I most love about them is the warmth of why the people and recipes are so special. I COULDN'T FIND ONE SUCH WORD HERE! There is much more warmth and personality in a Betty Crocker book. I strongly recommend that you seek out cookbooks by Norma Jean and Carole Darden, Sylvia...

I do not normally write reviews but I really appreciate the reviews I read on other cookbooks. I collect cookbooks and cook for a hobby and for a living. This cookbook is wonderful. I have spent over 20 yrs trying to find the "perfect" coleslaw recipe. The Memphis coleslaw is absolutely wonderful. I also love the pasta salad recipe... and the long searched for strawberry pretzel dessert. This is the first cookbook that I check if I want to make something. If there is an old recipe that you are looking for, you will probably find it in this book.. and it will be delicious!

The recipes in this book are wonderful and easy to make. I have received rave reviews from all the women in the my Redhat Society group for my cooking ability. I thank this cook book.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! So Surprised!, April 26, 2009
I've never been more pleased! This collection of church recipes is HUGE! The cookbook itself is larger than 8.5x11, and the recipes are the "tried and true" kind that are getting harder to locate in this day and age. If you're looking for great recipes look no further...this is the cookbook for you...and the best part is the price!

This cookbook has what appears to be many great recipes and my friend is just going to love it for her birthday as she collects cookbooks and is a wonderful cook. Perhaps she will make me something delicious out of it. :o)

I did, however, want to let you know that the one I received arrived as a Hardcover AND Wire spiral-bound copy which might need special care when closing it as to not damage it over time. The one I saw in a store previously was a plastic spiral-bound with sort of paperback/plastic cover [more like a 'fix-it & forget-it' cookbook that I have. Many Church fundraiser cookbooks use this type of binding also]. I'm not unhappy with it. Just thought I'd let you know that it was a little different than what I expected. :o)

I am somewhat of a cookbook collector. This one is has so many new ideas for the carry-ins and reunions that we attend. I hate to take the same thing. Most of the recipes are easy to do and with use of ingredients that you would most likely have on hand or that would be easy to find. I appreciate the pockets that enable you to slip in other recipes for storeage, too. I received another cookbook with the same name, different authors, as a gift and it did not contain nearly as many recipes as this. I find this is one of my 'go to' books in the collection. The print is large enough for me to read with my low powered reading glasses.

Got this book today and what a nice cookbook quite a large book. Lots of good recipes can't wait to get started. My sister looked at it to she said what a NICE book I may order her one.No pictures of the food you are making but easy recipes most wouldn't need a picture.Personally I like pictures but this one is great even without them. Nice little writings mixed with recipes makes it nice to read too.

I borrowed a copy of this Recipe Book from my neighbor and found so many recipes and tried about ten of them. Since the book wasn't mine I decided to purchase one for myself to continue my taste testing of recipes. Mmmmmmmm!!! good!!! The book is well worth its price for good home cooked meals and deserts. I would highly recommend.

It is a very nice cookbook with a lot of nice recipes written in an easy-to-use format.

My only criticism is the way it is bound, making it difficult to open and close at times. However, I would not let that one negative prevent purchase.

I gave this to my mother as a gift and she enjoys the diversity of recipes. This is reminiscent off the recipe books that local organizations publish to raise money that contain favorite recipes contributed by the locals.
