Book Description

August 20, 2001
A visually stunning celebration of London's religious architecture

Each era in London's long and complex history left its mark on that city's religious architecture. As a result, modern London is home to some of the most celebrated examples of an array of sacred architectural styles, ranging from the Romanesque and Gothic to the baroque and neoclassical. This visually stunning book explores the art, architecture, history, and legend associated with nearly 50 of London's best-known churches and cathedrals.

Churches and Cathedrals of Londonbrings together historian Stephen Humphrey's vivid technical and historical descriptions with professional photographer James Morris's exquisite full-color photographs in an exuberant evocation of one of the most powerful and enduring aspects of London's glorious cultural heritage. All ages and styles are represented, from Christopher Wren's extensive church building of the 17th century to the prodigious energy of the late Georgians and the Victorians and their classical and Gothic revivals.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superior Info and Pictures!, October 23, 2004
This review is from: Churches and Cathedrals of London (Hardcover)
This wonderful book, portrays 47 different historical churches and cathedrals in the sprawling city of London. There are many detailed pictures which portray these buildings with all their splender. It also gives detailed information on the buildings themselves, their overall history, and it tells the names of the architects. It was an insiteful book, and I would strongly recommend it to anyone who has an appreciation for architecture and enjoys beautiful pictures of magnificent houses of worship.
