Summer is winding down, plums and pears hang heavy on the trees, and already a hint of autumn is in the air. Fruit du Saison from Churchill China beautifully captures the atmosphere of this time of year. The glossy white china with beige borders shows partial views of dangling golden fruit and green leaves, as though the viewer is walking through a laden orchard. Although the pattern builds on historic English roots, the rimless coupe styling is quite modern, as is the dinnerware's safe use in the dishwasher and microwave.

This charming teapot beautifully complements Fruit du Saison dinnerware, and stands on its own merit as a piece to admire in a hutch. Fairly upright in form, with a graceful spout, large handle, and small loop handle on the lid, the white pot dramatically showcases ripe pears. A band of soft beige delineates the rim. Preheated with hot water, the pot may also be used to serve freshly brewed coffee. Fruit du Saison teacups and saucers are included in the dinnerware sets, while the matching sugar bowl and creamer are contained in the serving set. Based in the historic pottery town of Stoke-on-Trent, England, Churchill manufactures durable vitrified china for the hospitality as well as the home market, and in recent years has won awards for its innovative designs. --Ann Bieri
