Lushly decorated, the Churchill China Tonquin Blue dinnerware has a traditional beauty that suits special occasions perfectly. Setting a palette of deep blues against an off white background, the pieces feature a wide border of luxuriant flowers and beading. A central image shows a quiet Asian landscape scene with a house set in a garden and a pond nearby. The pattern is printed in incredible detail with stippling and lines for texture and shadow. Light sculptural waves at the dishes’ borders add a pleasing movement to the overall design.
This 20-piece Tonquin Blue set includes four complete place settings, each with a 10-inch dinner plate, 6-3/4-inch bread and butter plate, 6-1/2-inch cereal bowl, 5-1/2-inch saucer, and 8-ounce teacup. The dishes are made from high-fired earthenware and finished with a glossy top-glaze to protect the transfer-printed pattern. Tonquin Blue dinnerware is produced by utilising the centuries old art of transfer printing from original engravings which bring to life the scenes of an Oriental landscape. The Mountains, Tree's, Rivers & Gardens are long forgotten in this modern world however they do still exist & we at Churchill try to bring the best out in these scenes by reproducing our ceramics the way our forefathers did in the 18th Century. Each Piece is processed and handled at least 50 times before it is finally made ready for our customers. My first set of "real" China,

This set is beautiful! The scalloping texture detail on all of the pieces (especially the graceful teacups) is not so evident in the product images but makes this affordable complete service for 4 even prettier than I anticipated. I always received my tableware as gifts, and though they were very nice, I never got to choose a pattern of my own, so this being my first, I am very pleased to say that it is truly stunning. The pieces don't look like it, but they are both microwave and dishwasher safe, and heavy, sturdy thick pieces with an intense glossiness. I was not very comfortable ordering such fragile items via mail order, and even though my UPS delivery person was a bit rough with the box-even laying it down "bottoms up" on my floor while I gently informed him that there was china in it, but the box was packed in such a way that the pieces fit snugly and were individually wrapped and protected so that it could take a lot of abuse. Just don't drop the box-that could be fatal! I am thrilled with my first set of beautiful "real" china and though it looks too pretty to use every day, that is my intention, as it is good china, but not the "good" china that rarely sees food and gathers dust that must be hand washed!
