Helpful during college class,

My professor in college used this commentary while we translated the Pro Caelio. It cleared up many problem areas and explained what was going on when our text was fuzzy. If you can find it, get it!

It was stormy weather making it through Austin's edition of the Pro Caelio when I discovered Professor Englert's edition on Amazon and purchased it. Low and behold, the clouds parted, the sun shone, and the seas calmed. Prof. Englert's commentary helps you through the rough spots, the unusual or convoluted sentence constructions, the unusual word meaning, so that you gain a better understanding of the text and can enjoy Cicero. You don't spend a lot of time spinning your wheels, trying to figure out some difficult sentence construction. He also provides the historical background of the speech, as well as descriptions of the cast of characters, and describes speech structure.
My only complaints with this marvelous book are with its construction. My middle-aged eyes would have appreciated larger print, and it would have been nice to have the notes on the page opposite the text they refer to. However, if you are reading the Pro Caelio, buy this book! Est summissimus!
