This review is from: Cielo E Terra (Audio CD)
Al Dimeola's album Cielo E Terra is truely a solo album in which he play's every instrument other than a couple of percussion tracks. In todays music market it would probably be considered progressive new age. It's haunting, atonal, melodic, mostly acoustic guitar with hint's of synth guitar and percussion. Al Dimeola has always been known for his incredible picking technique and clever composition but Cielo E Terra goes way beyond that, it was recorded in 1985 but will probably not be fully appreciated till 2085. In my opinion one of the most ground breaking guitar instumental album's ever to grace the planet, WHY? The technique in the chording and solo lines are so abstract and unique I don't think it's ever been done before. Don't get the wrong idea this album isn't self indulgent meaningless guitar chops spilled onto a cd, it's well thought out, done to absolute perfection. If your looking for an album that's completly different and intriguing I highly suggest Cielo E Terra it's pure Genius.

Masterpiece,
By A Customer
This review is from: Cielo E Terra (Audio CD)
This CD from 1985 followed 6 rocking fusion albums of the late 70's and is completely different from anything he has ever done. It took me quite some time to adjust to the acoustic, classical style of Cielo e Terra after enjoying the Les Paul for so long, but after 14 years, it's the album I respect most, because it has meat, and I never tire of listening to it. It's dark, quiet, smoldering, and there is always something new to hear. Since it is mostly just Al on the acoustic plus a bit of percussion, this CD is timeless. If you are an Al fan, it is a must-buy. If you are new to hearing his work, get something from the 70's and 90's first, then check this out.

Cielo e Terra is a recording of profound beauty. It explores Latin motifs with an uncanny delicacy, a subtle sweetness, and a deep sense of the dramatic. Here Al Di Meola demonstrates that his virtuosity is qualified by a sensitivity of great dimension--a capacity which has never been rightfully acknowledged. In spite of this oversight, Di Meola has opened the door to the transcendent gift of our Mediterranean and Latin American heritage.
Sincerely, Michael

This is his best album by far. There are some really intense, emotional pieces of music here. If you are a fan of instrumental music, you must own this record!!! I would also recommend his first world sinfonia record from 1990.

Al Di Meola is most certainly one of the greatest guitarists of our time. In this album, he mixes talent, virtuosity and feeling for the pleasure of our ears and hearts. With latin sensuality and yet very rythmic lines, he and is fellow musicians deliever a wounderfull artistic performance. Thanks for such a great gift!

moody interesting and very different. The last track sounds just like Metheny and that is the highest praise I can think of to give a musician.

Pure Art,

This is an absolutely enchanting work of art and acoustic guitar mastery. It's not quite jazz, not quite classical, and draws influence from South America. It is probably his most under-appreciated work, yet it is in my opinion his best work to date. He shies away from his loud fusion sound which made him successful in the 70s, and instead shows a different side of himself with this album. The music is emotional and esoteric at the same time. It truly showcases his compositional skills. Al DiMeola himself says this is the album he is most proud of. True guitar fanatics will love this album.
