What a wonderful book! I love stories set in the Twin Cities. This book put together a few of my most favorite things !! The stories were fun, the editing was fantastic, and the collection was so very unique!! Each author brought a prospective and feel to the Twin Cities all their own. Some of the stories brought back fond memories of growing up in Minneapolis. I bought extra copies to give to friends and family because I think everyone will enjoy!

I was so impressed with this book that I bought copies for my family and friends - to their delight! All the stories were amazing and a really good read. But I especially enjoyed Jonathan Hansen's story, "Harris". He writes with so much clarity and understanding regarding the emotional complexity of his characters that I could feel their feelings. What I really loved was how easy he made visualizing - like a movie in my head. One of the best parts was thinking that I knew where he was going with the story and then he would trick me! Great writing!

When I first heard about this book on MPR, I was more then psyched to read it. As a resident of Minnesota and a Sci-Fi fan since birth, I so wanted to see the works that would come out of the minds of local artists. I found Vol I, it was only in paperback and downloaded Vol II on my Kindle. When I got a chance to sit down and read it, I was somewhat disappointed. The intro seemed more about personal matters than introduction. After reading the stories themselves, the synopsis sounded like the editor had been told the stories third hand and only had a passing resemblance to their actual content.

The first story, "Harris", was well written and followed the form of a short story well; there was action, clear enemies, and characters I empathized. I liked the setting of a shattered Minneapolis. This is the kind of setting I wanted to read about; finally a place that is not New York, or LA laying in ruins. However, the major stumbling block in this story is it kind of felt that you could have substituted any other city for the Little Apple. Besides using some landmarks, it really didn't feel like it was happening on Nicollet. I give that story 4/5.

At this point I was warmed up for the book, I was hoping that the rest of the book would have stories like this. The next story almost compelled me to delete the whole thing off my Kindle. "The Rotations of the Earth" had nothing to do with Sci-Fi other that one character constantly looking to the future. It didn't even take place in MN. 0/5

It was with some trepidation I read story three and some hope did return. "Lethal Options" was at least a Sci-Fi story that was quite nice as a short. A little preachy: Yes we could all ride bikes, oh wait, did you forget Minnesota gets cold 6 months out of the year?

Having local writers write a series of sci-fi stories about their city is a great idea. I'd love to see this done with other cities. This volume, taking place in Minneapolis, tells a number of unique tales that each have their own merit. The first one up, "Harris", by Jonathan Hansen, is one in particular that I'd like to see more of -- it could easily be turned into a full novel, or possibly a series. I hope they keep doing this series, and I would love to see it expanded to other cities. Keep up the good work!

We were very pleased with our order and thrilled when it arrived sooner than expected. This is a strong collection of Minneapolis-based fiction. In particular, the book's opening story by new author Jonathan Hansen showed talent and originality. His story was the best in the collection and I look forward to reading more of his work!
