As cigar smoking increases in popularity, some sort of a guide to cigars may be accounted most useful. Lande, director of Time World News service and executive producer of NBC and CBS, details here the history of cigars; their production; great names that are linked to cigars, such as Churchill and F.D.R.; profiles of great cigar makers; and, most important for the novice cigar smoker, a guide for the selecting and smoking of cigars. To aid the selection process, there's an illustrated guide to some of the best cigar brands. The book itself is illustrated throughout, with cigar-box, -band, and -ring art, along with photographs. There is a small error: John Rolfe, not John Smith, was the New World's first tobacco planter and the husband of Pocahontas. For pertinent collections.?Robert A.
