5.0 out of 5 stars humidors made simple!!
I have been using the cigar oasis for about 1 year now. It has made my cigar maintenace a simple pleasure. The oasis has kept my humidor at 70% humidity for the entire year. I have replaced the water container 3 times so I am getting about 4 months for each refill. That means including the water my total cost of maintenece has been less than $45 annually. Keep in mind...

2.0 out of 5 stars Had to replace after 1 year
Right after the warranty expired it started acting erratically. Contacted manufacturer, they advised putting it in a Tupperware container for 2 - 3 minutes. Next disconnect and reconnect. None of these worked, they said if I could find it cheaper on EBay, go for it. I had the option of returning the unit and for $34.00 they would refurbish and return. Cannot...

Keep in mind that I have 1 oasis humidifying a 300 cigar humidor that is opened at least once a day. The only issue I have had is that the metal contact ends in the oasis that the power cord plugs into are very delicate. One was damaged when I moved the oasis. Luckily there are two contacts and it still functions perfectly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why didn't I buy this years ago?, January 11, 2009
This review is from: Cigar Oasis XL Electronic Cigar Humidifier
Oh the years I wasted using the stupid old style humidifiers, battling to keep the correct level of humidity. This is the greatest invention since the creation of the cigar it self. I love it!!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Works, but with issues, February 9, 2008
By
I haven't had the same luck with mine. When it arrived, the included batteries were dead. Not a mechanical fault with the item, I know. Got it running, set the humidity point to 70 and let it run. My humidity never went above 62. Took my digital hydrometer down to my cigar store to check the calibration and it was off by 1. The Cigar Oasis had been reading 70.5 or so in this same time. Luckily, I took the cigar oasis with me and set it in his walk in humidor with my digital one and found the calibration off by 10! So, I went home and cranked up the set point to 80 (highest it can go) and now my humidor is running at 69 - 72. This has been consistent for the last month.

Now the problem is that the Cigar Oasis thinks the humidity inside needs to be at 80 and runs, shuts off, then runs some more, shuts off, then runs trying to get the humidity to 80. The first set of batteries have died in less then one month.

I wrote to the manufacturer asking for help with calibration or if I was doing something wrong and they never returned my emails. Not that impressed by their customer service for sure (dead batteries and won't return my questions).

Now that I have the set point at 80 it works okay. But I can't give it a solid recommendation. If you can buy it from someone locally, it may be better so you can exchange it if you have issues like I did. I could have returned it with no problem (and paid for more shipping to them and then back to me for the exchange), but figured that since it is working I'll just run with it and replace the batteries whenever.

4.0 out of 5 stars Relatively Accurate, May 27, 2009
By
This review is from: Cigar Oasis XL Electronic Cigar Humidifier
Had trouble keeping humidity level accurate with cheap sponge type humidifiers that came with my humidor. Got the Oasis XL.

It maintains rather well. I made the mistake of putting it in a large box of cigars that were too dried out (my humidor may have been dried out as well). Ruined a bunch, outer wrappers were cracking. My mistake for not easing it in.

For those concerned with it not being accurate over time, that is to be expected. I work in building controls and automation. High end humidity sensors that I install need to be calibrated on a bi-yearly or yearly basis at worse. Even then, we are looking to be +/- 2-5% RH. I also replace sensors every 5 years on average.

Don't expect this to be super accurate for years, and in a few years I will probably replace it anyway.

But I do like it, and would reccomend it for larger humidors (100-200 cigars).

5.0 out of 5 stars Live in an Arid Area?, December 6, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cigar Oasis XL Electronic Cigar Humidifier
Many years ago I purchased a wood humidor and a box of good cigars. The humidor came with a hygrometer and a passive humidifier. I live in SE Idaho (mountain desert) and unless I filled the humidifier almost daily, I could not maintain 70% humidity in the humidor. Needless to say, the cigars quickly dried out and were unsmokable. About a year ago I purchased the Cigar Oasis humidifier and use it in conjunction with a passive humidifier. I fill the passive humidifier weekly, and the Cigar Oasis gets refilled about every 6 months. Since the unit is adjustable, I was able to nurse my old cigars back to health (starting at a low humidity and gradually raising) and now can store new cigars with confidence. My only neutral comment is that the circulation fan is a bit noisy - even with the humidor lid shut, I can hear the fan in the background if the rest of the house is quiet - but I would not consider it obtrusive. In fact, if I hear the fan running continuously, I know that it's time to refill the cartridge. I know that it seems a bit pricey, but it's cheaper than replacing a bunch of good cigars.

5.0 out of 5 stars This product a "must have", January 13, 2012

This review is from: Cigar Oasis XL Electronic Cigar Humidifier
When I first bought a humidor to store my cigars, I obsessed over maintaining the humidity. I had read several things about how to properly humidify cigars, and I could never seem to get the humidity consistent with a cheap hockey puck looking humidifier. So, I got the Oasis, and I couldn't be happier. All I have to do now is set the humidity where I want it (around 72 for me), and leave it alone. Every once in a while I will check to make sure it doesn't need more water. When it needs water it will start running all the time. One water fill lasts a couple of months. I have had an Oasis for at least 5 years now, and am very happy with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works as I expected, December 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cigar Oasis XL Electronic Cigar Humidifier
It works. Period.

Assembly was not hard. It took me a few minutes. Instruction was clear. Meter read clear and accurate (as far as I can tell). My humidor holds 50 cigars and this humidifier fits pretty well. The fans is quiet. Now it has been running a month plus. Everything seems good.

It also supports the A/C power and it comes with a pretty neat flat power cable which can go into my humidor without causing any leak and the lid of humidor can still close very fitly. It's very nice design and it was not highlighted in the product intro page. So if you are wondering how the external power goes into the humidor, don't worry and just buy it. It will work nicely.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great humidifier for the medium humidor, December 6, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cigar Oasis XL Electronic Cigar Humidifier
I have a humidor measuring about 24x24x16, holds 16 to 20 boxes. This item is great. It rests during the summer months when the ambient humidity is about 70% most days (no air) and works beautifully, silently with filling about every 10 days during the winter. Maintains internal humidity nicely in the mid 60s when really dry outside. My first one lasted a couple of years, probably overworked a bit when I didn't refill the well diligently (runs continuously when dry), so I probably hastened its demise. I will be more diligent with this one.

2.0 out of 5 stars Set it, but don't forget it!, October 24, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cigar Oasis XL Electronic Cigar Humidifier
I am quite disappointed in this product, which i was really rooting for. I ultimately thought it would have been my best route, but i was wrong. The main problem was the inaccurate digital hygrometer. It was off by more than 10%. I had to leave it set at 80% to keep my humidor between 68-70%. The other problem is that it never kept my smokes at a steady 70%. It would fluctuate way too much for my liking; sometimes my digital hygrometers were reading 80% and 3 hours later they were reading 60% causing some of my cigars to split.

I had lost my power due to weather and was excited to try the battery feature. I changed my source from Adapter to battery quickly which was a plus, although it drained my brand new double A's in 3 hours. Good thing i kept my Drymistat tubes in a safe place. After this i never looked back. My Oasis is sitting on a shelf. I may give it away, since I'm too nice to sell a bad product or i may keep it for a paperweight, but it will never be placed into any of MY humidors again.

I was impressed with the paper thin A/C adapter, which is why i gave it two stars. It kept my humidor looking good from the outside, since you couldn't tell it was there. The design would be flawless in a product that did work. Unfortunately for me it didn't.
