5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent 25 track collection of the Sons' RCA 1940s work
These tracks were recorded for RCA Victor from 1937-1951 and ASV has put out this excellent sounding compilation of their best from this period. Roy Rogers only appeared on 4 tracks of this CD but of course, with and without Roy, the music is great and some of the highlights include the RCA Victor recordings of "Tumbling Tumbleweeds" and "Cool Water," the WWII war song...

Cool Cool Water and Whuskey brought me back to the 1940s when alot of music meet something in a better life than now with music going no where. Today Country music has little in it .Too BAD.But I'm just a country boy of middle 60's in age.

These tracks were recorded for RCA Victor from 1937-1951 and ASV has put out this excellent sounding compilation of their best from this period. Roy Rogers only appeared on 4 tracks of this CD but of course, with and without Roy, the music is great and some of the highlights include the RCA Victor recordings of "Tumbling Tumbleweeds" and "Cool Water," the WWII war song "Stars and Stripes on Iwo Jima," "Wagons West," "The Last Roundup," "Red River Valley," and "Cigareets, Whusky and Wild, Wild Women," but the entire CD is full of great music. If you already have their Decca recordings on greatest hits CDs and can't afford to shell out the Bear Family boxed sets, this is the CD to buy for their 1940s RCA recordings as the music is timeless and they are one of the greatest vocal groups of western music ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sons of the Pioneers, April 30, 2003

If your a Sons of the Pioneers fan,ya gotta add this one to your collection. It does have some of the standard "Sons" songs, but there are some gems on this C.D. "Serenade to a coyote" is my favorite on this C.D. It seems that the more i look for sons of the pioneers music, the more i appreciate what they did for "Cowboy" music

It was great to find a Sons of the Pioneers CD with Bob Nolan singing. I wished they had CD's with just Bob Nolan and the Sons of the Pioneer . Bob Nolan has such a distinctive and wonderful voice.
