Product Description

First new recording in 2 years! Austin, Texas legend and the king of soulful ''red dirt'' roots music returns with a panoramic collection of songs, spine-tingling ballads and all-out rockers that muse on/celebrate the restless American soul. Whether singing an aching song of the road, or a topical song taking a hard look at the war and our changing cultural landscape, or doing an innovative cover of a familiar classic by Donovan, Dylan or Joe South, this is Jimmy at his most cohesive and realized.

The first I heard of Jimmy LaFave was his cover of 'Walk Away Renee' on 'Austin Skyline' a good few years ago. It jumped out of the radio and grabbed me by the throat. I was lucky enough to see him live here in Auckland as the opening act for Lucinda Williams ... what a concert that was. His cover of 'Catch the Wind' on this will reach out and grab people all over again.

Jimmy is my favorite artist. I guess that Texoma is still my favorite, but this CD is right there. Like other reviewers, I remain amazed at how great a writer, singer and guitarist he is...and only a few folk outside of Texas and New England know his work. Buy this and you will want everything else he has ever done!

I have all of Jimmy's albums; try to go to all the live shows I can. This latest work projects a different twist/side to his personality. I love the passion of his other albums and his ability to touch your heart with his words and his voice. All of his albums are excellent. The new album to me has an ever so slight country slant to it but it is good although it took me a few listens to appreciate the added female vocals. As of yet, it is not my most favorite but I will definitely "wear it out" over time. The photography on the cover is phenomenal--good job Brian. I would have liked to had the words to the songs included as with all the other albums.

Let the others have their radio hits, Jimmy's the man when it comes to true American music. This is another nice piece of work. Musically, it is very "full" sounding and the harmonies (with the ladies) are just terrific. A great group of musicians here (Andrew Hardin is always a plus). "Lucky Man" really hits home. A great song. Dont miss out seeing him live!

Where has this man been all my life? I can't believe I just recently discovered his music. He is phenominal. This was the first cd I purchased by him, but I am quickly collecting all of his works. I find that I like his more recent work best...more mellow & with a touch of country flavor thrown in. I think he's best when he does the slow ballads, but he can rock with the best of them too. His voice will make you cry with it's power & emotion. Great blues guitarist too. Still can't believe I'd never heard of him until just recently. Buy his stuff!!!

Beautiful Music from a master. Jimmy's voice touches me like few others can. Haven't been able to find any of his music in Aus. Have to buy online.

Found ( what took me so long ) Jimmy LaFave on a Jackson Browne tribute CD and liked what I heard. Amazed at his output of great songs and settled on this CD for a start. Boy, was it a great kick start. THIS IS THE BEST DRIVING IN YOUR CAR MUSIC I have every found. And, it's still in my car but I take it out so as to not hurt it in the cold or fear of my car being stolen. This CD is amazing. From the starting " CAR OUTSIDE " - a great song to start your engine to to the mellow yellow version of " Catch the Wind" to the very soul searching " This Land " you are hooked for a long ride. Then "LUCKY MAN" comes on and you have to pull over and digest the words Jimmy conveys and it makes you think about yes, yourself. What a great song and then " Hideaway Girl " brings you back on the road to nowhere....The NOT DARK YET Dylanesque song really grabs hold of you and you have to pull over again. Yes, you'll be stopping and driving and ....and then "HOME ONCE AGAIN" finds you home and a tear forms in the corner of your eye - what a great song. And when you think it's over " These Blues " helps you pull into the garage and sit awhile while you ponder - do you get out ? Do you go back out ? Or do you take these songs home with you - inside your heart.
