5.0 out of 5 stars True-Blues....with a hint of southern rock....Excellent!, March 5, 1999
This review is from: Cincinnati Stomp (Audio CD)
I was fortunate to meet Big Joe in a club in Cinncinnatti back in the early 70's. I must say that Joes' heart is as big as his boogie-woogie hands, which get a real work-out on this cd! If you love true blues... you've got to love this cd! Even though this is compiled and partially recorded in his home....the quality is good and full of blues grit! Crank it up and enjoy! Take it from a musician and real music lover.....you won't be disappointed! Skip from Ohio

5.0 out of 5 stars Big Joe's Best, July 25, 2009
This review is from: Cincinnati Stomp (Audio CD)
This is definitely the best, and most generous, of the few albums the Cincinnati boogie-woogie master recorded. The piano man was joined by Muddy's seventies right-hand man Bob Margolin and the great Jimmy Johnson on guitars, and the great S.P. Leary(Muddy,Wolf,Big Mama Thornton,Jimmy Reed, and many more)on drums.
Duskin and crew whip their way thru a few originals, such as the title cut, and thrilling variations on standards like "Roll Em Pete", "Yancy Special", and "Down The Road A Piece". "Beat Me Daddy (Eight To The Bar)" is a bit strange sung by a man, though.
With this fabulous CD, Big Joe earns his place in the pantheon of boogie man like Otis Spann, Pete Johnson, Nat King Cole (pre-crooner-check out his trio jazz sessions, or those with Lester Young), Jimmy Yancy, and the still-active Pinetop Perkins.
