4.0 out of 5 stars CLEVER BOOK
The story of Cinderella with very bright and detailed photographs...using dogs! I liked the book myself being a dog lover but have to agree with another reviewer that in some of the photographs, the costumes in which the dogs were dressed are a bit over whelming. All in all though, it is a cute book and very cleverly done. This kids do seem to enjoy it and that is what...

2.0 out of 5 stars very disappointing but the dogs are still cute
I was hoping that this book would be on a par with Wegman's clever Weimaraner photos such as we see on calendars. It was not. The costumes were overpowering and I could barely discern the sad Weimaraner faces amid all the pomp and frippery. On a positive note, the puppies hitched to the pumpkin were adorable.

5.0 out of 5 stars our whole family loves it, November 5, 1999

My wife and I were Wegman fans before he did children's books (and before we had children), and now our two daughters are fans as well, particularly of "Cinderella." The language and photography are both beautiful and funny.

What a beautiful book! I got it for my sister, an avid collector and dog owner. Those dogs really show alot of love for their "dad". What an enjoyable book for all ages. highly recomended!

3.0 out of 5 stars Unsure., January 6, 2008
To be honest, I'm really not sure how I would feel about this book today; it seriously scared me when I was little. When I would open it I would get all shaky and uncomfortable and then I would start seeing the creepy dogheads on my family members...ahh!
Anyway, I'm sure I would appreciate it more today, or at least I hope. There is just something very disturbing about a dog's face on a human body with human feet and human hands etc...An upright dog with a suit on would bother me far less..
Anyway, I'm sorry to say that this review is fairly pointless, seeing as I don't have any current opinions on it; but if anyone is planning on getting this for their children they may want to think twice to see if it could potentially frighten them and scar their childhood.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cinderella goes to the dogs, November 25, 2006
This review is from: Cinderella (Fay's Fairy Tales) (Hardcover)
I love dogs, and I think my little toy poodle looks fantastic in his little Tar Heels jersey, but I'm still not all that sure about this William Wegman guy. He's deservedly famous for his calendars and books of fashionably dressed weimaraners, but this surreal reimagining of Cinderella is a tad disturbing, even though I'm sure that kids will get a kick out of all these dogs overdressed in extravagant costumes. I don't know much about weimaraners and their normal facial expressions, but most of the dogs in these photographs don't look particularly happy. The one dressed in a frock and balancing a fake lizard on his head looks about as happy as I would if I were dressed in a frock and balancing a fake lizard on my own head. Ball gowns, wedding dresses, livery uniforms - it's all just a little too much, I think. The really weird thing, though, is Wegman's decision to give some of his dogs human arms, hands, and feet, complete with painted fingernails and toenails. Cinderella only sports an actual paw in the photograph on the back cover.

There are some photos I rather liked - the images of Cinderella sleeping in her bed, one of Cinderella and a cat who doesn't seem to implicitly trust her fetching (no pun intended - at least not intentionally) young owner, and another of the sextet of puppies who serve as the coach horses for Cinderella's enchanted mode of transportation to the ball.

All in all, the youngsters to whom this book is aimed should definitely enjoy all of the funny photographs of Wegman's weimaraners, and the fact that they undoubtedly already know Cinderella's story should make up for some odd issues with the text (why does Cinderella speak fluent Old French, and what child - or adult - is familiar with words such as gavotte or sarabande?).

4.0 out of 5 stars Nearly the best Wegman book ever....., September 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Cinderella (Fay's Fairy Tales) (Hardcover)
I love Weimaraners - I have an adorable 9 year old named Fiori and he looks just like the ones in William Wegman's pictures. The only thing that I do not relish about the book is the evidence of Wegman's stylish move toward putting people hands onto some of the dogs. It's odd and a bit disconcerting. However, the text is charming and many of the photos are sweet (the sleeping pooch in bed with the fairy dog-mother over her). It is a fun book to read to kids and, though it perpetuates the entire Cinderella myth among girls, one can always explain that sweet princes only come along for Weimaraners!!
