Book Description

A Contemporary Teen Romance

Ten year old Briony Duke and her parents own a prestigious girls’ school in the country. This is in contrast to Mrs. Eyres, a middle-aged woman who has just been sacked by Briony’s father for embezzling funds. When Briony’s parents are killed in a car crash, Mrs. Eyres and daughter Lucy take over the school and Mrs. Eyres now becomes Briony’s guardian. Mrs. Eyres makes Briony sleep in the kitchen, cook, clean and tend to her and her daughter’s every whim. Seven years pass and Briony grows to be a beautiful and highly intelligent 17 year old. One day she meets Tom Logan, the sixth richest man in the country. She starts to fall in love with the charismatic 19 year old. The only question is, can she win his heart before her evil stepsister does?

1.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't even finish January 12, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is awful. I could not even finish it. It is written in a narrative, simply telling you what happens step by step with no emotional pull. It is a good story just not well written.

5.0 out of 5 stars A new twist on a classic tale May 22, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Ava Smith's "Cinderella Girl" is a fresh retelling of the Cinderella story with modern elements. Although the book has elements of the present age (cars, etc), Smith's writing style is reminiscent of classic writers. Her writing is detailed, and there is very little colloquial speech, which suits the story well. The characters are well-rounded and interesting. Ten-year-old Briony Duke was my favorite character. She must deal with the death of her parents, moving the into the home of people who hated her family. As the reader, you see Briony grow up and fall in love with "prince charming." The plot, although it maintains the classic Cinderalla format, has enough additions to keep it interesting and engaging. If you like the original Cinderella story, you will really enjoy "Cinderella Girl." Recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fun to Read Remake of the Classic Tale January 16, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Cinderella Girl is a new take of the classic tale, Cinderella. You’ll find resemblance to the old version, such as the evil stepmother (the guardian), the also-very-evil stepsister, the Prince Charming (the heir to a huge enterprise), etc. but there are also new elements added to the story. There is a fine balance to make between keeping the classic melodrama plot and breathing in new ideas. The author managed to do it satisfactorily.

The style of writing is good. The story is not boring at all (despite you already have a sense of how this classic plot would develop). The characters are well portrayed. Overall it’s a lot of fun to read this book, I’m giving it a 5/5 rating which it really deserves. I look forward to reading more classic re-makes from this author.

1.0 out of 5 stars A Firm NO February 6, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Even though the book had a interesting twist to the Cinderella tale, I felt the narrative style stilted, poorly written, and lacking any emotional investment of the reader to their characters. It seemed to be written in a style that was so simplistic that it was geared to adolescents or written by an adolescent for a school writing project.

1.0 out of 5 stars no... just no November 14, 2013

This story had potential, but it falls flat. Instead of pulling you in and letting you live the story, you're just told what happens. It's like an outline that has not been filled in. It doesn't engage the reader at all. I just... No.

5.0 out of 5 stars Old Is Not Essentially Gold! January 15, 2014
By Barbara
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
'Cinderella Girl' is a modern take on a classic story and I think that it has been portrayed in a very well manner. Briony plays the modern-day-Cinderella and is taunted by her stepmother, Mrs. Eyres, and her daughter as they're taking revenge on her because her father had fired Mrs. Eyres before he'd passed away. Briony's life became a living hell until she met a charming young bachelor, Tom. This book is quite engaging and had me hooked onto it. Although the fairytale touch found in the classic hasn't been removed from this adaptation, there are certain unexpected twists that are sure to leave you longing for the next chapter. The plot twist was captivating and not the same as in the classic. All in all, it was a very impressive book and I would recommend it to anybody who likes unique, modern twists added to timeless classics.

This book reminds me of the 2004 movie, "A Cinderella Story" that stars Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray. The plot of this book is also predictable in that it matches that of the original Cinderella story book. Basically, it is the Cinderella story told with a modern day twist.

Personally, I think the story would have been better without the addition of the mysterious, magic stranger. But sometimes youth need a little magic in their life. This book is what I would suggest for those kinds of youth.

One con is that sometimes I couldn't tell what character was talking. This is because the composition of paragraphs and sentence structure needs a little bit of work in some places.
