This well-known fairy tale of "Cinderella," based on the story of the 17th Century poet, Charles Perrault, has been a ballet for over 150 years. But it's enormous success came only after Frederick Ashton was inspired by the wistful and imaginatice Prokofiev score (written in 1945), and he created Britain's first full-length ballet. Together with Prokofiev's "Romeo and Juliet," the Cinderella Ballet has now become part of our dance culture.
The world acclaimed Berlin Comic Opera has a long history, going back 230 years. They adapt the techniques of Soviet classical teaching and have always felt a responsibility to make ballet accessible to the young by staging many special performances to introduce them to the art of ballet, and by presenting new choreographers and new dance works.
In this filmed version, the beautiful Hannelore Bey dances the role of Cinderella with touches of tenderness, dignity and alluring grace, while Principal Dancer Roland Gawlick creates an outstanding Prince. The splendid costumes and sets bring out the ballet's inventiveness, farce and fluidity, highlight by the "pas de deux" for Cinderella and her Prince in the ballroom scene and the comic roles of the ugly sisters.
V.I.E.W. VIDEO is proud to present this entertaining performance, which captures Cinderella's timeless and enduring charm and is a treat to young and old.
