This review is from: Cinderella meets the wolfman!: A howlingly funny musical spoof (French's musical library) (Paperback)
For all it's bad taste, this show brought credibility back to our high school drama club. But, it wasn't easy.

First off, the music seems to have been composed by a nine year old banging on a piano and pointing to random words in a dictionary. I don't mean this to be so much as insulting, just a warning on the difficulty. The piano and the singer almost never have the same notes and the chords are upside down and backwards. Lyrics include, "What are we doing here cavorting when it's very clear that our manly precense is superfluous." Not to mention an entire chorus of a song consisting of the word Shnork. Still, the music does have its moments and can be rather catchy at times.

The biggest complaint with the comedy of the play is the script didn't take it far enough. This is a silly slapstick of a play, and it needs to be painfully obvious. At one point, a tourist remarks, "I'm gonna take me a picture," and instead of just letting her snap one off, we physically had her walk over to the wall and steal one. And as you can see from the above topic, we cut out one of three female marraige candidates, and simply dressed yours truly up in drag. Later, that became our biggest selling point for tickets.

And speaking of characters, there really are some excellent ones here. Everything from our "flamboyantly" cast Snig and Snog to the Groucho Marx impersonation of a king, I don't remember a straight character in the whole play. To say the least, you need a lot of on-stage energy to pull this play off, and the less dignity and morals you have, the better.

Props can be sloppy (as the kingdom is in bankruptcy) and outlandish (as no character there has "good" taste). The biggest difficulty was transforming the prince into a werewolf (to which you can have a mask off to the side or a serperate person dressed and ready to make the switch) and choreographing some of the dance routines (such as "Hollywood Royalty" and "If the Shoe Fits," the finale).

All in all, yes, I would reccomend this show to other high schools and performing groups. Just be sure you hit it head on and don't look back.
