This review is from: Cinderella's Gold Slipper: Spiritual Symbolism in the Grimm's Tales (Paperback)
Samuel D. Fohr's "Cinderella's Gold Slipper" is a treasury of metaphorical and symbolic meanings underlying the fairy tales from around the world that we've known and loved as children. He discusses all levels of possible meanings behind fairy tales, including studies of their psychological and historical meanings, and includes a comprehensive bibliography for further study... but what Fohr is much more interested in is what he sees as the spiritual process intended in folk & fairy tales to aid us consciously and subconsciously -- as both children and adults -- towards that which might be described as "enlightenment," "union," "nirvana," etc.

Fohr reveals the symbolic ingredients of these tales as the recipe for divine revelation, and frankly, this explanation seems to me to be far more comprehensive and reasonable than many other types of analysis of folktales I've read.

This book is easy to read and understand -- not stifling with academic jargon as you might expect from a professor of philosophy. Fohr teaches both Eastern and Western philosophies, has translated and edited many of the works of Rene Guenon, and has written books on spiritual interpretations of different aspects of the Bible.
