I loved the idea. Really, I did. It just wasn't carried out as well as it could've been. It answers all those age-old questions about Ashleigh's baby, and Champion, and it does a good job. But after that things start sliding. I mean, come on. How can Cindy so blatantly say she's in love with this Ben guy when everything, and I mean everything, that happens seems...

Cindy's Desert Adventure takes you back, through Cindy's old diary, to the year after Champion won at Dubai. Cindy's eagerly progressing in the racing world, and is happy with her life working at Whitebrook. But Cindy's world gets thrown upside down after a freak accident, and Champion is sent away to live with Sheik al-Rihani in Dubai. Cindy, not able to bear losing the stallion, leaves her home and goes with him as a full-time groom. But life in the UAE is very different than she expected . . .

I really enjoyed this book, especially since it answered all the questions we had when Thoroughbred skipped a generation. I can't wait to find out what happens in Cindy's Bold Start, another Lost Diary Special, which takes place in New York. The book was fun to read; the story wasn't written in a diary format, but contained entries from Cindy's diary throughout the chapter. 5 Stars- A must-read for a Thoroughbred fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars The series gets better and better, June 10, 2001

This is a really good book, I have always loved Cindy and it was nice to read about her again. I thought that it would be hard to go back in time with the diary thing and to go back to an older character after Christina and Melanie for so long, but Mary wrote the novel EXTREMELY well. I got so caught up it in I couldn't put it down. It was great knowing what happend to Ashleigh so many years ago, and why they sold Wonder's Champion. I think it would be great for Cindy and Ben to get back together, maybe they will...I can't wait until Cindy's Bold Start! I highly recommend this series to ANYONE who likes horses. Its the greatest series of all time. I hope it never ends.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the best in the series but it explains a lot I don, July 30, 2001

Ok If your going to read this reveiw and understand why I'm writing this way you need to know a few things. 1 I don't really want to read about Cindy,If I wanted to read about Cindy I'd read the books from when Cindy was around. 2 I don't like Cindy, I never have. I always thought she acted like a spoiled brat unless she wanted something. 3 I loved Champion. Finding out what they did to him made me very upset at the other people I liked. 4 My favorite charactor is Melanie there is hardly any mention of her in this book. 5 I found out the next book is about Cindy also.6 Cindy likes Star. Star is Chris's horse she'd better not end up getting to ride or race Star. Ok this book was bad but it cleared up a lot of things. They also got some things screwed up like Jazzman they said he was a jumper that he never raced. HELLO who ever wrote this book obviously has never read any of the other ones. Jazzman was Mike's prize racehorse. but they did clear up why the baby that ashleigh was supposed to have at the end up book 23 never showed up in anything else. Also why Champion was never around. I think they were very stupid to sell him though. I mean he won the triple crown for gods sake. So I no longer like Ashleigh or Mike and I hate Cindy even more. Champion was the best horse they ever had. Too bad he had tombe paired with Cindy. If it had been Chris or Mel I would've been thrilled to death that he won the Triple Crown but Cindy was just a B''ch

3.0 out of 5 stars Something is lacking here..., July 28, 2001
I loved the idea. Really, I did. It just wasn't carried out as well as it could've been. It answers all those age-old questions about Ashleigh's baby, and Champion, and it does a good job. But after that things start sliding. I mean, come on. How can Cindy so blatantly say she's in love with this Ben guy when everything, and I mean everything, that happens seems like it's just a little crush? Cindy's thinking too much, in my opinion. There can be no romance if there is no romantic interest. Then the time line was [messed]up. The Gazelle is a race for three-year-old fillies in September, making Ashleigh's baby way over due. For Cindy to ride in that race and still go to Dubai as an 18-year-old a whole year would've had to elapsed, with Ashleigh already giving birth. And Dubai became tiresome fast. Why must it be that all male jockeys do not understand their horses in Cindy's eyes? Why are they all abusive? How can a huge farm looking to train a Triple Crown winner not have a real trainer? Overall, great. Things have been explained. The rift between men and women in racing was plotted out well, but there is still an extreme lacking in the understanding of horse racing.

5.0 out of 5 stars finally the questions are answered...., July 23, 2001
By
Melanie (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) - See all my reviews
this book was perfect i think. it filled in all the blanks about why cindy left, where champion went, etc. what it doesnt answer though, is where max went. one thing i was upset with in this is that once again, the author didnt follow the other books. in this it says that Jazzman, who sired Star, was once a Jumper??? no......he was mike's first prize racehorse. i think this book was needed to fill in blanks and did. but the author was smart cuz the book didnt compleate everything and left that for the cindys bold start. hopefully that book will answer all the remaining questions and bring the series up to date.

3.0 out of 5 stars Much better than Karen Bentley!, May 28, 2001
By
Shadow Legacy (Seattle, Wa, USA) - See all my reviews
This book was so much better than Karen Bentley's Cindy. It also tells why Champion is gone, why Christina doesn't have a younger sibling. It makes up for the time gap in between Cindy's Honor and The Horse of Her Dreams. This Cindy is not a spoiled girl. She takes herself for the blame when Ashleigh loses the baby. I can't wait for Cindy's Bold Start. Cindy will actually race again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Explains everything!!!, June 10, 2001
one word. WOW. This book explained everything! what happened to Champion, what happened to Cindy, the missing baby ect.. i LOVED how this book was put together and the whole Cindy dealing with the way they treat women in the UAE, that was cool! this is one of my fave TB books, because its not a "normal" book it has interesting subjects and a great story line! as for the whole Cindy & Ben thing, i TOTALLY think something should happen with them! And something with Champion, like Ashliegh and Mike have to deal with seeing him again! I cant wait till the next book! Mary- YOU ROCK! awesome book!

A Kid's Review
One thing- WHAT HAPPENED TO MAX?
If you've read the series you know that Max was Cindy's boyfriend. So, where did he go??????????????Ben is very annoying in my opinion and i want Max to come back. However, it was nice to finally know what happened to Champion and Ashleigh's baby, and the book had enough action and struggle to be interesting. It made me like the series again.

This book is on my favorites list. I love the cindy books. But poor cindy, if you haven't read the book then read it and find out what i mean. if you have read it wasn't that a great book? I can't wait to read the next one. I've already read 21 of the thoroughbred books. their great.

2.0 out of 5 stars cindy's desert adventure, July 13, 2001
By A Customer
I found this book to have little if any story line. There were three places max that this story took place in. Most Thoroughbred stories have at least 3-6 events, settings, places, etc. This book was not very interesting and I therefore would not suggest this book to anyone.
