Book Description

Cindy McLean and her partner, Ben al-Rihani, can't find a jockey to ride Gratis in the Kentucky Derby. The only person besides Cindy who can handle the difficult horse is a stubborn and inexperienced groom named Wolf. But Cindy doesn't like Wolf's attitude, and refuses to give him a chance. Besides, he doesn't even have his jockey's license yet.

Cindy wants to ride Gratis herself, risking irreparable damage to her already injured shoulder. Ben won't allow it. But stubborn Cindy is hard to stop. Will someone come to her rescue before it's too late?

3.0 out of 5 stars jockey, February 3, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Cindy's Last Hope (Thoroughbred #54) (School & Library Binding)
I liked this book.Cindy was one of my favorite girls in the series. I wish her old boyfriend Max would not have disappered though. It was not my favorite THOROUGHBRED book, but I liked it.

2.0 out of 5 stars the point is fading, September 11, 2002
While I appreciate that the new authors actually remember that there are original characters such
as Cindy, I feel the strange need to write about them in order to stretch out the road to the
Kentucky Derby to be grating and dull. Cindy's Last Hope was both of these. There was very little
plot line, and there was even less motivation to actually read it. The situation with Champion was
highly unrealistic and used as a plot device. Champion is eighteen years old, sold when he was
three or six (who knows at this point?), and spent a good long time in Dubai. I think the question
of who owns the colt would have come up much earlier, and I'm sure a large body of water such
as the Atlantic wouldn't stop the law. The pitiful excuse that Clay Townsend can't be found is
ludicrous. There was a line of excuses too long in this book to make the stumbling plot move
forward. Concerning Gratis, I'm sure someone could be found to ride the horse besides an exerice
rider and an injured ex-jockey. There have always been horses that are hard to handle, and there
are always plenty of highly skilled jockeys who can ride them. Why finding a jockey is such an
issue in this series is beyond me. Just because the horse bucks a few times and throws a rider
doesn't mean the jockey has to have a life bond to the horse in order to ride. Overall, I didn't mind
Cindy in this book, but I'm wary as to why they're bothering writing about her. The slow down in
this series is disappointing, and the ... attempts at plots are starting to wear thin.

5.0 out of 5 stars A GREAT BOOK, August 24, 2002
A Kid's Review
It was a great book. I recommend this to any thoroughbred lover, unless you don't like Cindy. The book is mainly about her (and horses). I don't understand why some of you people don't like her. BRAD on the other hand is the most obnoxious person that hit the series. I mean in this book he tries takong Champion (cindy's horse). I won't tell you if he suceeds or not you can find that out for yourself.

The other problem in the book is that Cindy and Ben can't find a jockey for Gratis in the Derby. The only one you can keep control of him is an exercise rider called Wolf. But Cindy doesn't like him. Cindy fires him and takes out Gratis on the trails. But hurt her bad shoulder in the process. Who can help her? Will she ever find a jockey for Gratis? Will Cindy lose Champion? Read the Book and find out!
