THIS CD REALLY TOUCHED ME,
By
This review is from: Cinema Rhapsodies: Musical Genius of Victor Young (Audio CD)
I am the niece of the late Victor Young. When I bought Cinema Rhapsodies: Musical Genius of Victor Young (Audio CD),
I expected to hear some familiar music, and I wasn't disappointed but I also heard a cut I had never heard before; cut #5 "Alone At Last" (From the movie "Something To Live For") which has now become my favorite of my uncle's songs. Now, about how I liked the CD. I had an hour's ride the night I received it and I played the CD in my car, cranking up the sound almost as high as I could get it and then I opened my moon roof. Unfortunately I started to cry and had to pull over and compose myself. It is so beautiful and it brought back so many memories. I had no problem with any of the tracks and I continue to play the CD in both my car and my home CD player. I think the producers of this CD did a magnificent job and I think my uncle would be very proud of how it sounds.

Best Victor Young disc on the market,

"Cinema Rhapsodies" is the best collection of Victor Young's music yet produced. It concentrates on the 1950's when Young was at his peak, and has his most famous themes and performances. The sound quality and program are excellent, and the booklet has long liner notes and rare photos that pay tribute to one of Hollywood's greatest and most underappreciated composers. Even though Young was a composer of film music first and foremost, several of his orchestral recordings actually became pop hits in the '50s, and they are included, too. The import collections I've heard are poorly mastered from vinyl, so this cd is a major improvement.

A Fine Collection,

A wonderful overview of Victor Young's work. It's great to have the single version of "Around The World" in stunning stereo sound.
One must keep in mind the over-all age of these recorings. That said, the sound is quite good. Five of the 22 tracks are stereo. You really can't go wrong with this collection.

If you buy just one of the available CD's of Victor Young'st his is the one you want. I find myself playing it over and over and remembering the many classic motion pictures that I first heard these themes in. This is a treat and a "keeper".

I learned about this album from a wonderful Yahoo group called "BeautifulInstrumentalsandVocals." It is everything I expected and love. Music is mostly played by Victor Young and played most beautifully. So, Tonight, put a few logs in the fireplace, Dim the lights and play this CD. You will be transported magically to a time when FM radio stations would play an entire album without interruptions and create a wonderful backdrop to an evening's relaxation. Enjoy. Highly rated for your listening pleasure!

Oscar winner Young was among the first acclaimed film composers, and this collection highlights that career. "Ruby," "Stella by Starlight" and "Around the World" are but a few of the marvelous melodies. Highly recommended for film buffs and for those looking for some "easy listening."

Quality of recording of Musical Genius of Victor Young,
By Pat Rathmann "P" (Bountiful, UT USA) - See all my reviews

Cinema Rhapsodies: Musical Genius of Victor YoungI received this recording in a timely manner. I realize that the recording has probably been made from several former recordings of Victor Young music because his musical compositions for movies spanned a long period of time in which the media of recordings changed. Much of the recording is mono which is clearly indicated on the recording and information that accompanied it. The volumes of the recordings are unalike, probably, for the same reason.
The song selection was very good out of the oodles of compositions from which to choose. The last song on the recording has skips and breaks and is unlistenable. I ordered the recording because of the number 9 song, 'When I Fall In Love'. This song was the music for a movie, "One Minute to Zero" which was released in 1952. It did not have words at the time the movie was released and in order to hear the music, I saw the movie 7 to 10 times. The movie, which starred Robert Mitchum and Ann Blyth, was not remarkable and has never been released on VHS or DVD. If ever it is reproduced, it is worth watching, if only to hear a really memorable song. A copy of the music with the words showed up in a "Piano Today" magazine to which I subscribe. However, they have wrongly credited Vernon Duke as being the composer rather than Victor Young.
