To be honest with this first album was dropped early i was surprised by the whole integrity and concept put in this album.
At a bland hearing, i simply was not feeling the album, and felt disappointed. But actually listening to the album more avidly and fluently i began to see why this album is one of Blue Scholars Masterpieces. Not only the album grew on me, But I was refined to the idea that it was not a Sappy Gimmick of Bayani ( Which is a really superb album).
So for any true and down to earth fan of blue scholars since there first LP and OOF EP, you will not find any dissatisfaction in this album.

First off don't get me wrong, I love the Blue Scholars and loved their previous EP "OOF" and "Bayani" was untouchable. However that being said this album lacked a lot of what I have come to expect from them. There seemed to be a lack of strong conviction or soul for lack of a better word, behind most of the tracks. I Really liked Yuri Kochiyama, Sejun Suzuki and the first track cinematropolis but some of the other tracks seemed as though they ran out of ideas and they sat there thinking "what could this next song be about?". For example Oscar grant starts with a Pink Floyd like foley beat but lacks the kick that usually follows an opening such as this, instead of strong, well composed beats and lyrics we get electro-bass followed by a constant chanting of "Shoot the cops". I love the message of this one but very poorly executed. The most disappointing is "Slick Watts" Blue scholars never used to make songs like this, it just seems like they were trying to combine the new black eyed peas with semi good lyrics and it just didn't go well. Overall I think it is an ok album, and being a big film buff I love the underlying theme but it is not up to the usual quality that I have come to expect from Blue Scholars.

I've listened to most of the previous Blue Scholars EPs, and both LPs, because Sabzi has come out with some great beats and Geologic has always meshed with them very well, crafting some interesting and often clever rhymes (even if I can't always understand his point of view on political/social matters).

On this album, Sabzi has come out with more than just some great beats. He's created a whole new sound for himself, with brilliant synth melodies being driven by booming drums, some of which are even more creative and complex than his previous drum patterns. Some of these beats don't even have a (normally prerequisite) snare - and that actually turns out to be a good thing. There are definitely highlights, but not a single weak moment in terms of music.

Geo has also stepped up his game, seeming even more full of passion and excitement than normal. His rhymes have lost a bit of the politically preachy edge that dominated Bayani (I enjoy Bayani alot, but have to be in the right mood to listen to proletarian hip-hop activism), his flow has improved to the point that I think he can't get much better without turning into a Pharoahe Monch-style monster, and he talks on a variety of fun and interesting topics. Most tracks here are named after famous people, including obscure movie stars and political activists, and while they're not always about the person they're named after, they at least closely resemble that person in some way.

This is my favourite album since Blu & Exile's Below the Heavens in 2007, and in my opinion, easily the Scholars' best work to date. If you enjoy hip-hop, these beats and rhymes will blow your mind, and break your neck, and you will not stop smiling for the duration (and probably for a while after it's finished).

heard it on Pandora radio, all of the beats are sick. Even though I am not a huge fan of hip hop misic, this really changed my perspective of it.

Granted summers here in Anchorage are very short, but every year I seem to find that one CD that I just can't get enough of providing me with a soundtrack for the adventures that come with the season. The album opens up drawing me into with a long build up before Geo begins to rip it setting the scene for the rest of the album. The perfect album to bang as your traveling round town and of course Geo still as brings it lyrically so you can just sit back, close your eyes and enjoy as well. This album is closer to the some of the tracks you'd find on the Oof EP than the previous LPs, but on another level of freshness. I hope you all get to enjoy Cinemetropolis. hmm... maybe even Bellevue

This is another great Blue Scholars release. The album definitely has a different sound than their previous ones, it's refreshing. As always, the lyrics are meaningful and poetic. The title track is my favorite.
