Product Description

The highest quality video glasses on the market!

The cinemizer OLED promises no compromise on performance, a pledge that begins with a pixel density of 2,500 ppi, nearly seven times that of Apple’s retina display. The glasses feature two integrated OLED micro-displays, one for each eye, that provide a fill rate of 99 percent and a 4 sub-pixel-per-pixel structure. Because they use two displays, these glasses furnish amazing 3D picture quality, with no drawbacks like flimmering, motion blur, reduced luminance or ghosting to detract from the experience. The image combines high contrast, true black and vivid colors to ensure exceptional quality.

Features of the ZEISS Cinemizer OLED

  • Rechargeable battery provides power for up to six hours
  • Connects to smartphones with HDMI or analog A/V interface, gaming consoles, PCs etc.
  • Eyeglass wearers can configure from -5 to +2 diopters in each eye via the setting wheel
  • Displays crisp images with very vibrant colors and true blacks
  • Supports side-by-side, top-bottom or line-interleaved HDMI 1.4

The cinemizer OLED multimedia video glasses by ZEISS are the most comfortable high-performance multimedia eyewear of their kind. Using high resolution microdisplays and premium ZEISS optics with built-in focus adjustments to produce superior image quality while ensuring optimum comfort and versatility, the cinemizer OLED makes watching movies, mobile TV or any video on the go a true pleasure for avid traveler or anyone who wants to take their entertainment along for the ride.

First Person View from your remote control device!

FPV (or First Person View) is one of the newest, fastest growing hobbies in the world. Thanks to access to low-cost remote control devices such as airplanes, helicopters (drones), cars, and boats, Hobbyists are able to get a first-person view as if they were sitting in the seat of their remote control device. Using a camera on the radio control device and connecting it to the Cinemizer as the viewfinder, one can get a real sensation of being the driver. The low power consumption of the OLED display and the integrated battery enable several hours of flying fun. The optional Eye Shield for the Cinemizer makes daytime flying very clear by blocking out ambient light from the daytime sun.

Immersive gaming without compromise!

The cinemizer OLED glasses, equipped with the headtracker, takes the gaming experience to an entirely new level. While viewing the game screen inside the glasses, players can simply move their head to change position instead of reaching for a console button, and the headtracker responds to the player’s movements in less than 5 milliseconds. 3D games come to life and old games feel like your playing them for the first time all over again!

I have owned many different HMDs, from recent ones (Sony HMZ T2 and the Oculus Rift Dev Kit) to old ones (Virtual IO glasses and Forte VR headset, Phillips Scuba) to name a few.

Don't let the silly pictures in the press release for the Cinemizer of a guy in a hard hat and a child at a dentist fool you. This is actually a serious product. Here is a comparison with the other products currently available:

The Sony HMZ head mounted display (HMD)
The Sony HMD, including the latest HMZ T3, which I tried but did not purchase, is just not comfortable or in focus enough to have it on your face for any length of time, so having a better FOV is meaningless.(I owned the HMZ T2 and I tried everything to make it comfortable/in focus, from purchasing third party pads to reading forums on the internet- its just a flawed piece of engineering which can never be comfortable without a complete redesign).

The Oculus Rift
The Oculus is also cool, but it is meant for a different application, it is meant for immersive VR with headtracking and it is a lot blurrier than the Cinemizer, although it is comfortable enough (though still not as comfortable as the Cinemizer).
If you want an immersive virtual reality experience, get an Oculus Rift with Tridef and try to tweak it to work with various commercial games. You will not want to watch a movie on this using Rift theater or other such app because the resolution and comfort will be less than the Cinemizer.

The Cinemizer
If you want to watch movies and yes even web surf and have a portable monitor, you want the Cinemizer.

I was excited to give the new Cinemizer OLED a try, having been watching reviews of it, along with some of the emerging competition in the HMD market. Once received, I made all the connections to my PC and checked for any updates in firmware. The un-boxing and connecting were not difficult. These slip on and off like glasses. I put them on and adjusted the optic wheels to focus each eye. Unfortunately, there was a dead pixel in the corner that shined a bright blue light from just outside of the picture. Other than that, the picture was perfect. Crisp, clear, with a size equivalent to sitting and watching my 42" TV from 6 or 7 ft away. I did notice I was having difficulty in focusing, and thought I may just need to "get used to them." After trying to watch a movie and moving the glasses around, from side to side and up and down on my nose, came to the conclusion that one eye was always going to be out of focus due to a lack of ability to adjust for pupil distance. I contacted the seller and requested a return and was offered the option to exchange or for a refund. If it were just the pixel, I would have exchanged, but since there was not an adjustment for pupil distance, I requested and was granted a refund.

The quality of Cinemizer is superior to Vuzix 1200DX glasses that I had a chance to compare this product to. The focus adjustment is easier. The image quality is better although it is still far from being great. Slightly higher resolution than 1200DX, but at almost twice the price.

There is no true 1080p resolution. The other products that are true HiDef were either not as portable as Cinemizer, or available only for backorder at the time I was in the market.

The best application for these glasses are gaming and 3D. I could tolerate using them as a computer monitor when doing work or browing the web only for about an hour. The focus isn't great and not consistent across the screen.

The 3D content compatible with this product is a bit hard no find.

The coolest thing about immersive TV and gaming is that there are no distractions. You're completely encased in the watching experience. Avengers in 3D delivered through the Cinemizer is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen! My kids love watching videos, especially 3D on YouTube, through this device. It really is very cool! But it is not a replacement for a big wall-mounted TV in your living where you want to hang out with other people. It's too personal for that. My husband has used it for training, which seems like a natural application, and I've heard of it being by people who fly those little helicopters and UAVs and the like. Our application at home, however, is really simple: gaming and watching 3D movies by oneself. We use it with a PS3. For that alone, it's totally worth it. Like any electronic device -especially TV- its use in our home has to be managed or people would be using all the time, but that actually makes it like a reward to get to experience the immersive coolness of the Cinemizer. Again, totally worth it.
