This review is from: Cinnabar, the One O'Clock Fox (Hardcover)
Marguerite Henry and Wesley Dennis team up again for a wonderful story in their usual way, but on a most unusual topic - a fox. Not ponies on Chincoteague, not stallions in Lipizza, not burros in the Grand Canyon, but a fox. Cinnabar is a red fox (a family man fox, no less) whose days overlapped with George Washington.
The story revolves around Cinnabar and his gourmet wife and their children and all the trouble he goes to to get a chicken for dinner. The fox hunt is a little scary for very young children, but it's what my grandmother would have called a "rollicking story", and a very unusual topic for the always successful Henry/Dennis team.

...this simple tale of adventure carried out on four feet. The charismatic Cinnabar still holds his charm, and he leads the reader through his many adventures and astounds with his crafty and quick wits. Throughout the story the values of family values and friendship are explicit- this is a must read for any child, especially those who have a fondness for all things living.

This review is from: Cinnabar : The One O'Clock Fox (Hardcover)
This story really captivated me as a child. The illustrations are in black and white, but they are superb. It's the story of a clever fox who just loves to elude the hounds and snag a nice meal for his family while he's at it. I bought a used copy recently and reading it was such a joy and brought back wonderful memories. Anything by M. Henry is great. I also watched the movie "The Fantastic Mr. Fox" recently and thought, whoever wrote that must have been a fan of this book because I thought there were several similarities, even though no credit was given.
