Book Description

Do you love to read big adventure thrillers packed with tales of gold snatched away from Nazis, chase scenes in steaming jungles, even steamier sex scenes, treacherous waterfalls, coded messages buried in dusty journals, and a secret society conspiring to take over the world?

Christine Kling's new Caribbean thriller, CIRCLE OF BONES, is just such a real page-turner based on an actual true mystery of World War II. The French submarine Surcouf, once the largest submarine in the world, departed Bermuda in 1942 and vanished without a trace. In this pulse-pounding thriller, Kling imagines what might have happened in this unsolved mystery.

Solo sailor Maggie Riley is cruising aboard her forty-foot sailboat when she rescues a sexy – but crazy conspiracy-spouting treasure hunter/archeologist who is swimming totally nude off the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe. She soon learns he is searching for the wreck of a mysterious submarine. Cole Thatcher claims the sub holds millions in gold coins as well as secret documents from a powerful inner circle of Skull and Bones whose goal is to keep America at war for their own profits. Cole hopes for Riley's help in decoding his father’s journals that are the key to the location of the wreck.

At last, Riley joins the search for Surcouf when she discovers the demons in her own past intersect the inner Circle of Bones, and this conspiracy nut might not be so crazy after all.

About the Author

Christine Kling was born in Missoula, Montana, but raised in Southern California, which meant she developed a love for beaches and boating at an early age. After writing for sailing magazines for many years, Christine turned to writing fiction, publishing several thrillers about sailing. She later became an English professor at Broward College in Fort Lauderdale, but retired in 2011; she now lives aboard her thirty-three-foot boat, Talespinner, and goes wherever the wind — and free Wi-Fi — may take her.

5.0 out of 5 stars Will Chill You to the Bone! January 2, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
'Authentic' was the word that kept coming to mind as I read this breathless thriller. Authenticity in Riley's personal journey as she's haunted by memories of her dead brother and the reality of her father, in her relationship with the obsessed, not-so-crazy Cole, in their search for the lost submarine, the Surcouf, and in the threat of a very real conspiracy. Every angle of the story rang true, which made it all the more terrifying. And then there's the exquisite detail and accuracy of the historical flashbacks, the nautical scenes, when you could swear the sea is splashing in your face or sucking you under. Christine Kling is a wonderful, vivid writer, and that alone would make CIRCLE OF BONES a great read. But add to that an edge-of-your seat plot, an intriguing determined heroine, a tense romantic situation, and a conspiracy that will chill you to the bone, and I'd have to say that CIRCLE OF BONES is one of the best thrillers I've read in a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Christine Kling Delivers with Circle of Bones February 12, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
There are a few things the reader might want to know about Christine Kling. One might be that she, Dennis Lehane, and Barbara Parker studied under James W. Hall and Les Standiford. Or perhaps the fact that she's logged thousands of miles sailing the Pacific and the Caribbean. But in the end it's all about the writing, so there's only one thing to know - Christine Kling delivers on her promise to give the reader a wonderful escape in the form of a mystery that blends two tales woven together in the story Circle of Bones. The main characters, Riley & Cole, cross paths and set out together in search for a lost submarine that contains treasure and secret documents that will undermine powerful interests. Kling's skilled writing and knowledge of the sea let the story unfold in a smooth cadence of suspense and intrigue. Fans, myself included, will be looking forward to more of Riley & Cole.

5.0 out of 5 stars Circle of Bones February 26, 2012
Format:Paperback
Having read Christine Kling's "Seychelle Series", I was excited to get "Circle of Bones" in my hot little hands! And, she didn't disappoint. I was caught up from the start with the characters, plot, intrigue, history, and the flow of the novel was so smooth that I couldn't put it down. I wanted to get to the conclusion, but didn't want the story to end. Looking forward to more from Christine Kling.

More About the Author

I have spent more than thirty years living on and around boats and cruising the waters of the North and South Pacific, the Atlantic, and the Caribbean. I've written articles and stories for many boating publications including Sailing, Cruising World, Motor Boating & Sailing, and The Tiller and the Pen.

It was that sailing experience that led me to set my first nautical suspense novels on the waterfront in Fort Lauderdale. Featuring Florida female tug and salvage captain, Seychelle Sullivan, there are four books in the series, SURFACE TENSION, CROSS CURRENT, BITTER END, and WRECKERS' KEY. I'm now retired from my day job as an English professor at Broward College, and I am living the dream of full-time cruising on board my 33-foot Caliber sailboat Talespinner. My latest book set in the Leeward Islands is titled CIRCLE OF BONES: a Caribbean thriller, and features a female solo sailor, Maggie Riley, and a maritime archeologist (and conspiracy nut) Cole Thatcher, who are racing against an elite inner circle of Skull and Bones to recover the secrets found in the wreck of a World War II submarine.
