5.0 out of 5 stars The One Book You Need To Start a Coven, or Circle, Or Grove, or a just a bunch of like-minded witches who want to celebrate., April 17, 2007
This review is from: Circle, Coven & Grove: A Year of Magickal Practice (Paperback)
Deborah Blake writes this for those of us who want to get more organized in our practice but do not know where to start. She includes full rituals for not only sabatts but for the new and full moons as well. It is great help when moving from a solitary practice into a more group oriented. I espescially like how she reminds us to do what we feel is right for our group, that there is no need to practice EXACTLY what she has written. Even using this book only during the major holidays makes it a key book to have on your shelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars great for the beginner or solitary starting a group, July 31, 2007
This review is from: Circle, Coven & Grove: A Year of Magickal Practice (Paperback)
As a former solitary who was new to group work, I found the information presented in this book helpful to work my way from novice to "on-my-way-to-advanced" Wicca! The rituals help to plan a year of not only the moon cycles but also the other important times of the year when it seems right to give thanks to the Goddess and God. It is presented in a straight forward way that makes it easy for anyone to lead the rituals.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great starting foundation for someone who knows nothing, January 26, 2008
This review is from: Circle, Coven & Grove: A Year of Magickal Practice (Paperback)
This book is a great start for anyone wanting knowlegde of the Craft. HPS Blake gives a clear explantion to what you need, doing what you feel is right and the tools needed for the Craft. She includes her own covens rituals from start to finish and the meanings for each one. Breaking it down by month gives a better understanding to what happens in the Craft as well. She also gives great references for other authors which she encourages to add your own practice. You can tell she has a great love for her coven and being a witch. She really turned me onto the Craft. This is a must-own book.

4.0 out of 5 stars a book worth having, December 9, 2007

This review is from: Circle, Coven & Grove: A Year of Magickal Practice (Paperback)
As a solitary witch I thought this book would have nothing for me, but on the recommendation of a friend who is also solitary I gave it a look and it is now one of my favorite go to books for ritual planning. The information is organized in a user friendly format and Blakes style of writing is like having a high priestess all to myself. I've never considered myself the type of witch who would enjoy working with a group, but reading and using this book has made me consider forming a coven or looking for one to join.

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect book to help you become more comfortable with doing magic, month by month --year by year --with humor and good sense, November 27, 2007
This review is from: Circle, Coven & Grove: A Year of Magickal Practice (Paperback)
Deb Blake is a voice of practice, good sense and humor. This book provides you a plethora of details needed to make writing, using and finding magic in your life easy and fun. Explanations of the why's and wherefore's and an easy going attitude provide the confidence and information one needs to act on your own or start up a group.

The spells provide some of the best models of tasteful and insightful ways to incorporate personal voice and a connection with the divine I have seen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative, chock full of ideas, May 7, 2008
This review is from: Circle, Coven & Grove: A Year of Magickal Practice (Paperback)
What I love about this book, aside from the great ideas, is that the author has made herself available to the readers by her writing style. It is well thought out, and a great addition to anyone's collection of books on Wicca. If you're in a circle, thinking of starting one, or simply curious about what a ritual gathering is like, I recommend this book.

Kudos!

5.0 out of 5 stars Has a lot to offer groups and solitaries, December 15, 2007

This review is from: Circle, Coven & Grove: A Year of Magickal Practice (Paperback)
I read many online reviews of this book, and the few I found that did not like it seemed to be nit-picking (should full moons be before new moons? Difference between initiation and dedication? c'mon.) These matter when you belong to a specific coven belief system. The author, Deborah Blake, states that she doesn't and is ecclectic, which is why I like this book. She doesn't tell you what is right, but rather gives you ideas on how to combine what is comfortable to you and a more organized ritual. I really love the freedom this offers me, a former solitary that is now part of a fledgling group. This book has already given us confidence in how we celebrate the Goddess, and I see us continuing to utilize Ms. Blake's book far into our group's future. Thank You Deborah Blake!

Very helpful for those of us who circle with a group or want to do so, this approachable book gave me a year's worth of moon circle ideas. I'd recommend it both to beginners and to advanced practitioners who want some fresh ideas. Her bubbly, approachable style is a plus as well.
