Book Description

March 3, 1981
Dibell's latest novel takes us again to the world of the Valde warriors and the legendary science menace of forbidden Kantmoire. Jannus confronts triple danger as the immortal monster Ashai Rey hunts him down, as his protector of the Crescent goes to battle with the dictratess of the Circle, and as the warrior women bands challenge him to deadly combat. The outcome would affect all on that once great but now declining planet -and only the power conferred on him as the secret king of Kantmorie held hope against the overwhelming scientific machinations of the Star.

5.0 out of 5 stars publish this woman's books allready!, February 6, 2000

Ansen Dibell actually wrote five books in the Rule of One series and I'm one of the fortunates to have read them all. You see, for some strange reason, her final two books were never published in the US, but because her books were such a hit over here in the Netherlands, they were inmediatly translated and published over here, where they did well and established quite a following. American publishers, take note! You've been missing out on the deal of the century! Ansen Dibell is one of the best, if not THE best, writers I've ever had the pleasure to come across. I've adored her books for fifteen years and they never cease to entertain and enrapture me. Publish this woman's books!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Unknown Gem, September 16, 2010

Ansen Dibell (real name Nancy Bell) died a couple of years ago and alas there will be no more novels from her. The trilogy, Pursuit of the Screamer, Circle Crescent Star and Summerfair are all that was published in English. Two more books in the series were published in French and Dutch (go figure). I have read all three of the series and still reread them from time to time. If, at some stage I can justify paying over $100 for a second hand copy of the novels published in French I shall do so (which shows how much I like her). I would rate her as one of the best science fiction writers of all time and I would recommend her to anyone who appreciates intelligently written and well plotted science fiction (she also wrote the classic Plot on how to create plots).

5.0 out of 5 stars Calling the Valde, December 19, 1999
This review is from: Circle, Crescent, Star (History of the King of Kantmorie, Bk. 2) (Paperback)
A marvelous work. More conventional, less eliptical and thus less mysterious than the first volume in this intriguing series (Pursuit of the Screamer--terrible title for a great novel). Far better than the authors to whom he is compared, it is a shame Dibell stopped with three books.
