Book Description

Young, smart and beautiful with everything figured out – or so they thought. Born into a prosperous Greek American family, sisters Nicole and Theodora have achieved the perfect balance between the old world rich in Greek tradition and the freedom of life in America.

Headstrong and independent, Nicole plunges into life head-first, too often ignoring the risks. Her talent and astute business acumen make her the perfect heir to her father’s empire, but his old-world attitudes prevent him from giving the top spot to a woman. Nicole’s world spins out of control when she falls for a married senator who shares her heritage and her dreams. While struggling to navigate previously uncharted moral waters, she uncovers treachery and corruption that will break both her sister’s and her father’s heart. The decisions she makes will affect the happiness of those closest to her and will define the woman she is to become.

The young and conventional Theodora weds and quickly learns that marriage is not the paradise she envisioned. She must soon confront the growing suspicion that her husband is not the man he seems. Forced to endure the constant disdain and disapproval of her patrician mother-in-law, she resigns herself to the fact that she will always be considered an outsider. As she struggles to succeed at her marriage, she seeks the wisdom and council of her beloved Greek grandmother who has been happily married for over half a century. Ultimately she must come to terms with the reality of her own life and take responsibility for the role she has played in deceiving herself.

As the dramatic plot unfolds, the two young women must confront deceit and betrayal and their own shortcomings – while they struggle to preserve the values they cherish.

Set in Baltimore, Annapolis and the tiny island of Ikaria, Greece, Circle Dance provides a view into the lives of a dynamic family that has successfully achieved the American dream without abandoning the customs and traditions handed down through their Greek heritage. Artfully intertwined plots bring generations together in a dance of rejoicing and mourning, loss and healing that will keep readers enthralled until the last page.

"Circle Dance has captured the essence of the Greek American experience. Full of plot twists and turns, it is a page-turner, appealing to Greeks and non-Greeks alike. Bravo to these two talented authors."

A book you'll be staying up way too late to read because you can't put it down

In "Circle Dance," we encounter many twists and turns in the lives of this family. What we always get back to is the cohesiveness of the family, that bond that can't be broken. The Parsenis Family is your family. They're extremely proud of their roots; they work hard, and they give back. They're good people. But things happen. In happiness and in sorrow, you lean on your family. Family sticks together. It's an enduring type of love that cannot be shattered. It's our shelter from the storm.

The Constantine sisters have created characters you become invested in; they're real and identifiable. They're people you know. This book is a page-turner; it's one you'll be staying up way too late to read because you can't put it down. This story will resonate with Greeks and non-Greeks alike.

Circle Dance is a book that will keep you up late into the night, not even realizing it is way past your bedtime. Lynne and Valerie Constantine's book is a sure winner and heading straight for the top of the bestseller list. If you enjoy the family saga genre, Circle Dance is a must-read. I can only hope that a sequel is in the works and we will follow Nichole and Theodora for another year. I would love to see this turned into a movie.  Do Not Miss This One; it is a WINNER.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a delight! August 28, 2004
Format:Paperback
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Circle Dance. It reeled me in from the beginning and I was hooked for the rest of the book. The characters are beautifully developed and the description of Greek traditions and family is woven into their modern day lives. Not being of Greek descent myself, I wondered as I picked up the book whether I could relate to the characters and appreciate the storyline but I was very pleasantly surprised at how absorbing the storytelling was. It didn't matter that I wasn't Greek - I literally couldn't put it down. A real page turner! If you're searching for a refreshing look at a close knit family with an ethnic flair - Circle Dance is the book for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fast and Enjoyable Read September 7, 2010
Format:Paperback
Loved this book! Being of Greek decent and having married a non-Greek, I was pulled into the story right away as we were introduced to the main characters -- two Greek sisters, with one marrying outside her faith at the onset. I grew attached to these sisters and was routing for them in their quest to find love and true happiness. However, Circle Dance is not just a novel about inter-cultural relationships, but is an exciting drama with a surprise ending. This would be a fantastic story to see on the big screen.

5.0 out of 5 stars All about real people.. July 17, 2005
Format:Paperback
This book is a real treasure, filled with love, deceit, friendship and strength. The Greek-American sisters Nicole and Theodora, struggled with the family values they believed in and the real world they lived in. The beautifully interwoven Parsenis family, provided support and guidance for each other.

Theodora had to come to terms with an adulterous husband and her alcoholic Mother in law. While Nicole's character developed, she began to understand the difference between and infatuation and love. These sisters had such a wonderful caring relationship with each other. It was this family's love that guided the protagonists to grow and make wiser decisions. Family members can have a positive impact on each other's lives as did the Parsenis.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Page Turner from the Beginning to the End January 24, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
When I was awarded the title, “The Deception” Circle Dance Character Prequel, for my narrative audition I looked at the project as a task to complete. However, upon completion I had become quite interested in knowing more about what happened with the characters!
I started to read Circle Dance shortly before bedtime, but stayed up long past my normal time. The next morning I couldn’t resist taking the morning off to read the rest of the book. I just couldn’t wait to find out what happened. Of course, I was pleased with the ending. You will simply have to read it for yourself to figure out why this book pulls you in so strongly and won’t let you go until you have seen the characters through to the end!
Definitely read these books in this order: The Betrayal, The Deception, (both short story character prequels) and then read Circle Dance and you will be enthralled from the very beginning. Now I am wondering what will develop in the future with these characters and upcoming books?

This fantastic book drew me in immediately and submerged me in a loud, loving, fun-loving and hard working Greek family. I found that I couldn't put the book down because something was always happening that caused me to want to read one more chapter.

The family and indeed, all the people in this book are written very well. The authors are skilled at populating the book with characters I wanted to like and learn more about, except the ones I didn't like and wanted to see get their comeuppance. Even those were fully fleshed out and "real" seeming.

This book is able to drive life's lessons home without preaching and while making the reader fall in love with the characters. Please give it a chance and I think you too, like me, will come back to see if these authors have written anything else.
