While I enjoy Elizabeth Davis' other book this one was not my cup of tea. A little too out there for me.

This review is from: The Circle of Life: Thirteen Archetypes for Every Woman (Paperback)
I'm really surprised that I'm the first person to write a review on this wonderful book. I would have thought that many more women would enjoy the powerful insights from it. Anyway...

The Circle of Life is written by two midwives that have taken the trinity of Maiden, Mother and Crone and expanded it to thirteen archetypes that explore ALL aspects from Daughter to the Dark Mother and their connections to each other. One of things that I really appreciated was that the archetypes aren't based only age but a woman's state of mind or consciousness. There is also an aspect called the Transformer that represents the Source of All Things, the Great Cosmic Womb. She creates the change within our lives while being a safe space for us in the midst of turmoil.

For each archetype, there are personal stories that the authors have collected that illustrate their individual and collective powers. I enjoyed this book because it wasn't written from a particular spiritual system but draws on the collective of the female experience. It isn't based on Wicca or any other religion, which is a nice change as well. This book is great to have in your collection if you're tired of hearing about the evils of patriarchy and just really want something that delves into the feminine without all the rhetoric.
