Editorial Reviews

Review

Stretch your skills when you combine paper piecing and circular designs into vibrant quilts. Colleen Granger's dramatic quilts use Peggy Martin's assembly-line strip paper-piecing technique and expands from there. Colleen terms the technique power piecing and shows you how to create various numbers of rings to complete a round or medallion quilt. The book includes eight projects that build on your skills as you complete them. Full-size foundation patterns are included as is a test page so you can determine if your print reproduction is accurate.--Morna McEver Golletz, Professional Quilter Online (1/20/11)

Today, I am writing a review of Circle Quilts by Colleen Granger. This is a really fun book. I opened Circle Quilts and became excited about it right away! The quilts in this book look very difficult to make and sew, but these quilts are mostly about paper-piecing layers, which are then stitched together. Granger is very thorough with her writing. She tells her readers about fabric choosing, making the patterns, sewing the layers together, borders, finishing the quilts and much more. My favorite pattern is Labyrinth, which uses many small pieces together. I love making postage stamp quilts from 1 1/2" pieces of fabric, and Labyrinth contains both the paper-piecing element and the challenge of using tiny pieces to make a quilt. If you are a paper-piecer, or a new quiltier who is willing to take on a challenge, you will especially enjoy Circle Quilts!

I borrowed this book from my library and just had to have a personal copy. I'm an experienced quilter and have done a lot of paper piecing...and have had classes with some of the award-winning national teachers. The directions in this book are well explained and documented, making it easy to follow even for a novice quilter. What I especially like is her technique of chain-piecing the paper-pieced sets of borders. Compared with other methods, this one works well, provides a quality finished product, and speeds the process. Thank you Colleen Granger!

The quilts and patterns in this book are interesting and I will probably make one or two of them. The "Tips" that Ms. Granger provides throughout the book are also most helpful. All-in-all, this book was a worthwhile purchase and I'm glad to have it in my quilting library.

This is a great book if you are an advanced quilter. The projects are beautiful and quite artsy but difficult. Instructions and photos are super.

Great instructions, best for the experienced quilter but good basic directions are included so that the inexperienced who have other sewing skills can follow.
I am planning a quilt by the Maze design right now.
