Great Adventure, April 27, 2008
I have been following the Darkest Age stories since they first came out. The story was well written and enjoyable to read. I would recommend it for young readers that are interested in fantasy and science fiction stories.

A touch too feministic for my tastes, but still enjoyable, May 7, 2011
Review written by 14 year old girl:
The Circle of Stone by A.J. Lake is the final book the Darkest Age trilogy and although it was excellent, the second book is my favorite in the series. I thought that this book was very well written and I enjoyed reading it, but as I was reading I discovered something that A. J. Lake was slipping between the lines. A.J. Lake made Elspeth the one with the sword. She made the sword a girl. She made the biggest dragon a girl. She made Edmund's mother the ruler of Sussex while his father ran off to go and do battle where he wanted. A.J. Lake made the women in the story have the most responsibilities. I am glad that Elspeth didn't just sit around and twiddle her thumbs but actually played a part in the battles and I can understand how it is sometimes easier to use girls in a story when you are a female writer but A.J. Lake made the whole thing seen really feministic.
In this book Elspeth, Edmund, and a few others go back to their homeland of Wessex and search for Loki. All that they can find are wildfires, destroyed villages, strange burnt pillars with carved faces on them, and a small boy with a chain around his neck and a deep scare across his chest. They find that the boy, named Wulf, may know how to find Loki and Elspeth and Edmund must travel to the Circle of Stone and destroy Loki in a final epic battle.
I loved reading about the dragons, the action, the friendship, the struggles, and the talents. I highly suggest this series to any teenager who loves reading about other worlds.
