From Library Journal
This book chronicles the history of the Rockefeller Foundation's support of scientific research from the early 1900s until c.1945. Rockefeller hired people to travel the globe to find worthy projects; they dubbed themselves the "circuit riders," the name traveling Methodist preachers had given themselves during frontier days. Some projects were less than successful; others became landmarks, such as the discovery of penicillin. Many world-renowned scientists worked for or owed a debt to the Rockefeller Foundation. Recommended for libraries with business history and history of science collections.
