5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Large Turkeys
I bought this recently because of its special price on Amazon.com and its high rating. I purchased it without my wife's knowledge because I had to make a quick decision, so it was a bit dicy about whether or not she would approve.

Well, we used it today (Thanksgiving, 2007) for the very first time. Wow, was it great! It is very sturdy and just the right size...

It is very sturdy and just the right size to put into a very hot oven without much danger of touching the hot sides of the oven when putting the roaster into or taking it out of the oven. That's because the handles face up on the sides, rather than out, like our previous roaster handles did.

Also, the rack works very well for keeping the turkey off the bottom of the roaster, allowing air flow all the way around the bird. By the way - we roasted a 25.6 lb. turkey, and this roaster had no problem handling it!

The roaster is deep enough to handle any amount of basting/drippings from the meat. Additionally, when we finished with all of the meat and bones, we very easily poured the rest of the grease into a small mouthed jar, without mess. That means that while pouring, the grease did not run down and back on the sides of the roaster, as often happens when pouring liquids out of regular pots and pans.

All in all a very well made non-stick roaster, that is convenient to use, easy to clean and does everything you want a roaster to do (in my humble opinion). I give it 5 stars without reservation or hesitation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Fantastic, December 20, 2006

The key is >>> does it burn up. Most cheaper pans burn up or flake teflon immediately. This one does not. Clean-up is a snap. Don't waste your money on the store brand el-cheapos unless you like the teflon in your food. Even the K...... A.. $50 pan burned up easily.... This is the one!!!!

Circulon has done an above average job designing this roaster. The deep sides and very good food releasing nonstick surface makes this pan a multi-tasker in the kitchen (think lasagna!). Clean up is a snap. To get best results and even cooking use the included rack to improve air circulation. This Roaster is bigger than many so if you cook large pieces of meet you will benefit. I wouldn't pull this baby out for your average Over-Stuffer-Roaster but, if I'm roasting pork , beef, turkey or goose this is my weapon of choice.

Roasting meats has until very recently been by-and-large out of my scope of regular cooking-- I tended towards sauces, soups, stir fries, and so on. Largely stove-top work and if I were to prepare a piece of meat, it was generally in a skillet. For whatever reason, this has been changing recently, and it occured to me that rather than fumbling about with Pyrex dishes as roasting pan substitutes, I needed a real roasting pan.

I go into all of this to provide some perspective on my breadth of experience with roasting pans-- I can't say for certain how this one rates up against other pans, but only discuss the pan itself and how I arrived at the conclusion to purchase this one.

So being someone who works on the stove-top, I've got an assortment of Circulon 2 pots and pans-- I received a 12" skillet as a gift and fell in love with it and have since been building a collection. I'm sold on non-stick (less oil and easy cleanup) in general and on Circulon in particular-- I've never worked with pots that are as easy to clean as Circulon pots. Nothing sticks to them, inside or out, as the pan is coated all around.

The roasting pan itself-- 16x13 and about 3 inches deep, requires a little more real estate for handles, etc. It's remarkably lightweight, although this isn't altogether surprising given its aluminum make-- supposedly oven safe to 500 degrees-- I used it at 425 and lower with no problems. It comes wiht a nice wire rack as well that is also coated (albeit a little harder to clean not having flat surfaces, but that's to be expected).

I don't really know what to say about its cooking abilities-- roasting is sort of a pop it in the oven and walk away until the temperature is right, so I can't really speak to effective heat transfer as its not like a skillet where you eye this thing. I imagine that truthfully a roasting pan is a roasting pan, it's the extras that separate them, and the cleanup on this was so mindlessly easy, I can't speak enough volumes about how great this was to work with.

Bottom line-- if you're looking for a roasting pan, this one will certainly do the job for you and save you time on the backend.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this pan, November 23, 2007
This review is from: Circulon 16-Inch Rectangular Nonstick Roaster (Kitchen)
I have tried so many different pans for roasting my Thanksgiving turkey, none of them come close to this pan.

This pan does not chip and it really is non stick. Many pans claim to be non stick and end up after a few uses chipping or sticking.

Cooking and clean up are almost always a pain. I can say without a doubt this has made my clean up and cooking much easier. I will be using this pan for my roasts, turkeys, and lasagna. I am very happy with it.

I have been cooking and baking for over 30 yrs and this is the best pan I have ever owned.
Nothing sticks to this pan and I've had no problems with the rack either.
I initially used it for the first time on Thanksgiving. I roasted a 21 lb turkey, breast side down. It was the best turkey I have ever made!
I don't have a super huge oven but I had no problems with it fitting in the oven with ease. I didn't need to lower my oven rack from its usual middle position to hold the pan and the 21 pounder.
I don't understand the comment about using extra water when roasting because I have no idea why anyone would roast a turkey and use 14 cups of water??
I use this pan for so many things. I really love it for a water bath since it is nice and deep and the handles are perfect! It's also wonderful for lasagna.
I would have to say I would recommend this pan without reservations.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rack a little unwieldy in wall oven, but still a fine pan, December 11, 2008

We bought a Circulon 16"x13" roaster to handle larger roasts and to handle a 20+ pound turkey in a gas wall oven. First, the good points.

This pan had room for a 21 lb. turkey plus plenty of extra space to accommodate four large potatoes and a couple handfuls of baby carrots. There was never any danger of juice overflow, a risk we've sometimes had with similar sized turkeys in disposable pans. For Thanksgiving especially, this pan is a noticeable improvement.

Rack cleanup is easier than with most pans, as the bars are widely spaced and are relatively non-stick. Initial cleanup may result in a white film on the rack and/or pan, but the instructions recommend a cleanup procedure for this condition.

The handles are mounted nearly vertically, which is a nice space-saving measure. They feel very sturdy. It has been quite easy to get this pan into and out of the oven by the handles, even under the full Thanksgiving load noted above.

On the down side, the provided pan rack sits up very high -- so high, in fact, that even with one oven rack taken out the turkey would not initially fit into our wall oven. Fortunately, the bars have sufficient flex that we were able to bend them down to a more manageable height. Still, it would be good if this product had an option for buying a lower rack.

Also on the down side, water boils/evaporates from inside this pan faster than from any other pan we've worked with. We ended up adding about 14 cups of water during the turkey's cooking time, which is at least twice as much as we've ever had to add. A rib roast also required far more water than we were used to adding. Constant vigilance on the liquid level is necessary if you plan to roast without a cooking bag.

We've only had this pan a short time, but so far I'd cheerfully recommend it with the cautions noted above.

I used to think that I was a terrible cook. Then I realized that it was the pans that I was using. I have discovered the world of Circulon pans and I wouldn't cook my food in anything else!

I love the features of this roasting pan--nice and big, with handles that you can easily grab, and a great non-stick finish (all things my last roasting pan did not have). But the lightweight rack that comes with this roaster can be a deal breaker. When my roaster arrived, the rack was bent. We could straighten it pretty easily just with our bare hands, though it still wobbles a bit. But the big drawback is that the base of the rack is too narrow for the pan, so it slides from side to side if you don't hold the pan exactly level. I wonder what will happen if you tip the pan a little bit when there's a 20 pound turkey on the rack. You'd think people who make good roasting pans would make stable racks. Does anyone know of a sturdier rack that would fit this pan better?

Later (after Thanksgiving and Christmas): Yes, the rack is very unstable! It's hard to hold the pan, with a heavy turkey in it, perfectly level, as you put it into or take it out of the oven; and the slightest tip sends the rack (and the turkey)toppling. My only hope is to either get a different rack, or get someone to weld extensions onto this one to stabilize it.
