Product Description
In 1928, Chaplin was given an Academy Award for his versatility and genius in writing, acting, directing, and producing THE CIRCUS. This film-about a tramp who unknowingly becomes the star clown of a small time circus, falls love with the owners bareback-riding daughter and, in the end, selflessly arranges for her to marry the dashing tightrope walker work she loves-contains of Chaplins most hilarious and touching moments. Unfortunately, there has been a tendency on the part of some (perhaps because it was produced between his two masterpieces, THE GOLD RUSH and CITY LIGHTS) to underrate this exceptional motion picture. But make no mistake, this is great cinema, and in the 1970 revival for which Chaplin composed the score, there is a beautiful ballad, Swing Girl, which the artist sings himself.
