Web of the Spider In this remake of his own La Danza Macabra director Antonio Margheriti casts Anthony Franciosa as writer Alan Foster who accepts a bet from Edgar Allan Poe (Klaus Kinski) and his friend Thomas Blackwood. No one has ever survived a night in Blackwood's castle but the skeptical Foster gladly accepts the dare. The castle is striking and scary which soon begins to affect Foster's mind. He meets Blackwood's sister Elisabeth and the jealous Julia (Karen Field). Julia's portrait had intrigued him earlier but it is Elisabeth whom Foster beds only to see her stabbed by a stranger. The attacker's body vanishes after Foster kills him and he quickly realizes that the castle is inhabited by vampiric ghosts. Foster must survive the horrors of the night and hold on not only to his life but his sanity as well. This is an atmospheric film full of crypts skulls and mist and Margheriti's direction is assured.Runtime: 102 minutes Circus of FearA group of professional criminals rob a bank truck on the London Bridge. CIRCUS OF FEAR-- A bank car robbery's haul is hidden at a travelling circus, which leads to a series of brutal murders. Not as scary as the plot indicates.

DIE SISTER, DIE!-- A man attempts to enlist the aid of his invalid sister's nurse in her murder. Nicely gothic atmosphere.

LADY FRANKENSTEIN-- After the death of Dr. Frankenstein at the hands of his "creature," his daughter and lab assistant continue the experiments with a brain transplant. Meanwhile, the original monster (portrayed by Paul Whiteman) is out for revenge against graverobbers.

WEB OF THE SPIDER-- Based on a Poe story. The author himself convinces a journalist to spend the night in a mansion where the residents die and reanimate almost at will. Nicely photographed goth atmosphere.


BRENTWOOD's 4-fers are nicely priced movie bundles. Video and sound quality of these digitally unrestored public domain films is generally fine. Discs are dual-side recorded.
