4.0 out of 5 stars Hope for Metal, September 15, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Circus Diablo (Audio CD)
I discovered this bad at Ozzfest and was instantly hooked. The catchy musical hooks and over all heavyness keep you interested througout the whole disc. I love the fact that it is heavy but you can understand the lyrics I guess that is old school but I hope this kind of group signals a return the the glory days of metal IE Judas Preist, Ozzy etc.The growling thing is ok for a song or two but gets old really fast where as this type of Metal holds your interest with great hooks and a very polsihed sound.Great Cd guys more please !!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Now here's a "supergroup" I can get in to!, June 19, 2009
This review is from: Circus Diablo (Audio CD)
So what do you call a band like Circus Diablo that's made up of lesser-known members of other bands? A semi-supergroup? Whatever you call it, Billy Duffy (the Cult), Billy Morrison (Camp Freddy), Ricky Warwick (the Almighty) and Brett Scallions (Fuel) make a great team. Circus Diablo might have received a lot less press than big name supergroups like Velvet Revolver and Audioslave, but they certainly out-rock those bands.

Circus Diablo is a modern hard rock band that manages to avoid sounding either trendy or dated. There's a timeless rock & roll vibe on their self-titled debut album that too few bands seem to be able to capture. Credit Duffy and Warwick, two of rock's unsung songwriting heroes for that. I'm not as familiar with Morrison or Scallions, but as a fan of The Almighty and The Cult, particularly when Duffy gets to exercise more control of the songwriting process, I know I can count on some high quality hard rock from Duffy and Warwick. There are a ton of great rockin' riffs, catchy melodies, fun lyrics, and just plain songs you can rock out with. I'd have preferred to hear more of Warwick on vocals, but I have to admit Morrison was a good choice for this kind of rock. He suits Circus Diablo in a way Scott Weiland never did with Velvet Revolver.

We seem to be in the middle of a rock revolution, with bands like Circus Diablo emerging to challenge the post-grunge status quo. If you're a fan of music that rocks, you should check out what Circus Diablo has to offer. If you like what you hear, check out bands like Endeverafter, Stone Rider, and Fatal Smile. They're carrying the true rock torch as well.

Oh, and how can you not love an album with a cover like this?
