3.0 out of 5 stars mediocre even within genre of CYOA, December 8, 2008
This review is from: Circus of Fear (Paperback)
No one expects the best writing ever in a choose your own adventure book. The part that stands out about this book is that a girl stars as the main character instead of a boy. That's a plus.

The bad part about this book is that it is about a circus. The circus owner has some plan to take over the country using dopplegangers. Your character spends most of her time worrying about her own survival and only a small amount fighting this evil which she learns about right away.

I guess what I don't like about this book is that you don't solve the major problem yourself. Your character tells someone else and they solve the problemof the evil circus owner. It's essentially the opposite of empowerment, for either children in general or girls in particular.
