post review of book,
This review is from: The Saga of Darren Shan (1) - Cirque Du Freak (Kindle Edition)
I liked the book and it encouraged me to read the others as I liked the small book size as it did not intimidate me but still packed a lot of action and adventure

Just another Vampire Book?,
A Kid's Review
Vampires. Are they real or fictional? What are the facts about them, and what are the myths? Cirque du Freak is the first in a series of books written by Darren Shan. In the book, a young teenager by the name of Darren Shan (the author uses his name in the book) is a normal boy until one of his friends finds tickets for a freak show. He thinks that it will be so cool if he could go, but there are only 2 tickets. Darren and his friend Steve persuade the other two to give them the tickets. When Darren and Steve sneak out, they go to an old theatre in their town. They see amazing "freaks" perform various acts. After the show, Steve stays around and talks with one of the performers. Darren wonders what they are saying so he goes in closer. He hears Steve say that the freak, named Mr. Crepsley, is a vampire!! The rest of the story unfolds soon after. The book is in the genre of fantasy/sci-fi.The book was very near the top of my list because it was the opener of this series, but otherwise, it wasn't anything special. I loved the style of writing because it is an exciting subject. Mr. Shan has written 12 books in this series and 3 in the Demonata series. Both are in the same category of book, and both series' are very gruesome. That is one of the reasons I love them. The genre is in a mixed category. I'm not sure whether it's in fantasy or sci-fi, but I still like it for its overall presentation. It had many surprising chapter endings, and it has great characters. Anybody interested in horror-type books would love this series. The best book in my opinion is the 11th book, but I haven't read the last book yet. The reading level goes from 9 and higher. Just don't read it if you have a queasy stomach. I recommend it with a 9 out of 10. If you read this book, I extremely recommend the others in the series. Want more? Go ahead and read the Demonata series. But beware, that series is way more bloody and gruesome than Cirque du Freak. |
