This album makes me wanna......,
By "elyjar" (Perth, Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: O (Audio CD)
Almost every endearing word under the sun has been used to describe this album "0" including 'Spectacular', 'Sublime', 'Mesmerizing', 'Magical', 'Wow' and the list goes on....However, if this album has done anything at all , it would be to add the final nail in the coffin and confirm my decision I had been trying to make for a very long time. And that is whether to go to Vegas to see the live show. After a listen to this cd, the choice was easy because this album makes be wanna drop everything, pack my bags and run away with the magic that is Cirque Du Soleil. This album is the pinnacle of perfection thanks to the great ingenuity of composer Benoit Jutras. There is a common theme and consistency that flows through this album from start to finish. You can almost visualize the picture the music is trying to paint and there is a great sense of emotion that eminates from the sentiment created by both the muscicians and singers. There is a consistant theme and style of music that the composers are obviously trying to follow and this is what makes it such a great album. Benoit Jutras does not ever lose track or drift too far away from the fundamental sound he is trying to create for the show and together with the way he ties the beginning to the ending to complete this masterpiece is just magnificent. The highlights include tracks 1, 4, 5, and 6 which are uplifting tracks that give you a sense of joy and emancipation. The errie and lamenting 'Nostalgie' is just brilliant as are the more upbeat tracks like 'Tzelma', 'Mer noire' and 'Simcha' which just makes you wanna get up and dance. Toumany Kouyate's vocals are nothing short of amazing especially in 'Africa'. In all, a remarkable and stunning effort from Benoit Jutras and his creative team. "0" is simply magnificent and has to take top honours for the best Cirque cd to date. And in case you were wondering why I only rated this album 5 stars, it's only because I couldn't fit in a million.

This review is from: O (Audio CD)
I own 8 CDS soundtracks, and as much as I love them all, O takes the cake. I could seriously listen to this CD everyday (and often I do) and never grow tired of it. It is simply marvelous. In a sense, it was the best rock album AND the most creative classical album of the year. It starts by grabbing your soul in the first 2 minutes of the soundtrack-it then takes you on a voyage and then returns you somewhat full-circle and yet transformed. It is ethnic without being irritating to people who prefer more comfortable tones. You will danse and drum your hands to the third track, and you will be absorbed into Desert (track 11). After hearing the soundtrack, you will be obsessed with seeing the show. While Quidam is my favorite live show, O is the music I cant get out of my head. BUY IT!

This CD is incredible! It is relaxing, and invigorating at the same time. Every time I listen to this, I get a chill, and it brings back the wonderful memories of seeing "O" in Las Vegas. By far, the most incredible show of it's time. It is a "must see", and worth EVERY PENNY!!!
